DVD Pick of the Week: The Memory of a Killer

Part of: DVD Pick of the Week

Rather slim week, not a lot to choose from, although there were still a couple of contenders for the title of Pick of the Week. After careful consideration, weighing out the contenders, taking note of their pros and cons, I was able to narrow it down to just one.

This week's pick is a film from Belgium entitled The Memory of a Killer. As yet, I have not seen this movie, but with this release, I intend to rectify that situation.

I remember seeing the trailer some months ago, and thought that it looked like an excellent film with an interesting concept. The main character is Jan Decleir as Angelo Ledda, an aging assassin who is beginning to show signs of Alzheimer's disease. The plot follows two detectives as they investigate the disappearance of a high level executive and the murder of two prostitutes. Their path leads to Angelo, who has problems of his own. His early stage disease is interfering with his ability to complete his jobs, then when he refuses to kill a 12 year old girl, he becomes a target himself.

The trailer and the story look excellent, I look forward to seeing this one.

Also coming out this week:

  • Class of 1984. An old Michael J. Fox film that deals with violence in schools. Thought to be unrealistic back its day, seems rather prophetic now.
  • Domino. Trashed by critics and many film goers, here is the latest Tony Scott film. I think the criticism is unfair. I loved the over the top/in your face style.
  • Iron Maiden: Death on the Road. The masters latest live video is a 3 disk affair, containing 2 different audio mix disks, and a third with documentaries and videos. Nice set, despite some production issues.
  • North Country. I missed this in theaters, but is Oscar nominated for Charlize Theron's performance.
  • Pulse. Soon to be seen on the big screen in the English remake, here is the original Japanese thriller.
  • Rent. Skip this one.
  • Ultimate Avengers. Marvel's first animated film looks like it could be fun. Here's to hoping it is.
  • VH1: Metal Mania - Stripped Across America Live. Live footage from the tour, featuring Don Dokken, Winger, Slaughter, Firehouse, Jani Lane, and Mike Tramp.
  • The Weather Man. After Lord of War, the second ignored Nic Cage film of 2005. Wrongly ignored, if you ask me, this is a good movie.

What are you getting/seeing this week?
