DVD Pick of the Week: 7/12

Part of: DVD Pick of the Week

There are a number of good titles coming out this week. I could have gone with one of the bigger releases, but there is one that jumped out at me. This week's pick is Titus: Seasons 1 & 2. I wouldn't be surprised if many of you don't remember the show.

It was another victim of the wonderful scheduling department at Fox. It was shuffled around the schedule, ratings dropped, before it finally disappeared, after, I believe, three seasons. It was a shame too, it was a funny, clever, well written show.

It was based on the comedy of Christopher Titus, and his wonderfully dysfunctional family. It was one of the more original series to hit the small screen. It also starred Cynthia Watros (who went on to join the last season of Drew Carey), Zack Ward (the bully from A Christmas Story), and Stacy Keach.

This is definitely a show worth digging up!

Also coming out this week:

  • The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Ten episodes of the weekly toy commercial that I enjoyed so much in the 80's.
  • Bill & Ted's Most Excellent Collection. Collected for the first time with an additional disk of most excellent extras, who can I say no?
  • Cry-Baby: Director's Cut. I have never seen this John Waters film with Johnny Depp, but I am intrigued.
  • Dodgeball: Unrated Edition. I question the thought process about this release, who not when it was originally put out?
  • The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. Does this need any introduction?
  • Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Music Video Anthology. Not sure what this is about, but may be worth looking into.
  • Ichi 1. The prequel to the violent Takashi Miike film.
  • JSA: Joint Security Area. This is an excellent film about friends, misunderstanding, and murder in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. It is also very accessible to newcomers to Asian cinema.
  • Million Dollar Baby. Not nearly the best film of last year, but still excellent and well worth your time.
  • Rubber Johnny. From director Chris Cunningham, I cannot even begin to describe this.
  • Tales from the Crypt: The First Season. Finally, the great horror anthology is coming to DVD.
  • A Very Long Engagement. Jean-Pierre Jeunet brings us another wonderful film with a atypical timeline and some wonderful performances. Not to be missed.
  • Unfaithfully Yours. A new release from the Criterion Collection of the comedy genre, outside of that I know nothing.

That is all for this week.
