This is the easiest week I've had in awhile when it comes to picking a disk for this honor. But as easy as it was, the second place disk was very close.
OK, enough stalling, this weeks pick is The Incredibles. The latest Pixar release is also their best, in my eyes. For the two of you who have not seen it, it tells the tale of a family of superheroes who have retired from the public eye to attempt to have a normal life. The patriarch, Bob 'Mr. Incredible' Parr, thirsts for the action again. Before you know it, the entire family is embroiled in battle once again.
This is possibly the most "mature" film from Pixar. It is the first to truly appeal to audiences of all ages. Of course, this is just my opinion, but simply put it is a great film all around. The animation is excellent, the story is complete, voice acting is also spot on. Brad Bird, the mind behind The Iron Giant, does a good job of bringing this story to the screen, and giving us one of the best superhero films ever. On a side note, this also won the Best Animated Feature Oscar at the 2004 Academy Awards.
Other titles of note:
- Star Trek: First Contact - Collector's Edition. This was the close number 2. One of the best Trek films gets the CE upgrade. I look forward to seeing this battle with the Borg again. "Resistance is Futile."
- Miss Congeniality: Deluxe Edition. This Sandra Bullock film was more entertaining than I had expected it to be. It gets an upgrade just in time for the sequel to hit theaters.
- Alfie. A moderately enjoyable remake of the old Michael Caine starrer, this time with Jude Law.
- Sword of Doom: The Criterion Collection. I have not seen this film, but it appears to be a samurai film with a good reputation.
- 800 Bullets. I have heard good things about this film. I really am not sure what it is about, but I like the title, so I may have to check it out.
- What the Bleep Do We Know? A documentary about quantum phsyics which is a thinly veiled New Age spirituality propaganda. Moderately amusing.
- Farscape 1.3: Starburst Edition. I am still not sure what to think of these releases, I already bought all of the initial releases, I would like to know how these differ from the previous disks. I any of you have any of the new disks....
That does it for this week, a little bit for everybody.

I must be one of the two with The Incredibles. This post reminded me to put it on my Netflix list -- thanks!

Erid, glad to help! It is a wonderful movie and one of the best animated films to come out in years! ANd arguably the best Pixar flick.

Yeah, I haven't liked Pixar's stuff at all to date, which is partially why I avoided it for so long. But it's gotten such good reviews, that I'll finally have to get it together to see the thing.

Really? I've enjoyed most of Pixar's work. I am interested in seeing what they can do when not under the confines of the Mouse. I think The Incredibles is a hint of what is possible, plus Brad Bird is very good at what he does.

great stuff as ever Chris. Whilst i loved The Incredibles, i don't think it's as good as Toy Story 2, the pinnacle of all pixar for yours truly.

I love TS2 also Duke - not sure if it tops The Incredibles, but they are very close. Of the Pixars, I also love TS1 and Monsters, Inc. A Bug's Life and Nemo didn't do as much for me.

I found A Bugs Life underwhelming too. Probably becuase Antz was so much better. I mean, it had Woody Allen for crying out loud. Did A Bugs Life have Woody Allen? It did not. i think it had Bobby Darin, though.
Nemo was fun, but too close to "formula" for my liking. Thankfully, Incredibles took a different narrative path.

here's my thoughts on The Incredibles, btw
