This is a very small week, which makes my choice all that much easier to make.
This week marks the release of a Disney classic which has never been released on DVD before, and from what I have read it looks absolutely spectacular. The title is Bambi, it is being released as the latest in Disney's Platinum line. I am very much looking forward to seeing this classic again, it has been years since I have seen it. It never fails to reduce my mother to tears, as it suffers from what she calls "The Dead Mother Syndrome." So many movies feature a dead mother. But it is so much more than that.
I'm sure that all of you are familiar with it, so I will shut up about and just say that should go out and get it.
Others to look for (potentially):
- Exorcist: The Beginning. This is not a good film. It does feature a good performance from Stellan Skarsgard in a fruitless role. I'll be interested when Paul Schrader's version comes out.
- Flight of the Phoenix. I haven't heard much good, but it still looks like it could be a fun adventure flick.
- Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie. Who doesn't like the sponge? This was my introduction, and it is rather addicting.
- My Own Private Idaho: Criterion Collection. Gus Van Sant's tale of street hustlers with Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix. I've heard good things, but haven't seen it yet.
- Brotherhood of the Wolf: 3 Disk Collector's Edition. I saw a listing for this, but am not sure yet, it looks like the Canadian release. If indeed it is coming out, it is mine. This is a great film.

It's terrible that they did not release both versions of Exorcist: The Beginning together - this was indicated earlier, I believe.
Another DVD of note coming out this week:
* Nirvana - a 1997 film by Salvatores that is a 'deep' cyberpunk thriller
2 - Chris Beaumont
I've heard rumors of a possible theatrical release of the other I just want to see it, I am sure it is better than what we got from Harlin.
Nirvana? is that with Christopher Lambert? I may have to check it out.
3 - Aaron, Duke De Mondo
if you check out the DVD release thingy i just posted under Video, you'll see the trailer for Schrader's version. It's being released theatrically, albeit limited run.
