I just got done watching head of state, and had to race down to the basement to tell you how bad it is. That being said, I love Chris Rock! He was recently named the funniest man in America and I can't argue with that. You can imagine I was completely stoked to watch Chris Rock and Bernie Mac stick to the 'man'. Regrettably though, this was more formulaic than you can even imagine. Think of the Warren Beatty movie 'Bullworth' - same premise. I have to imagine the movie would have been better if the directing wasn't such a distaction. The script was hilarious, but Chris Rock took too much on by writing, starring, and directing this gem.
There appear to be a decent amount of featurettes which I'll get to after the Daily Show tonight. Like I said, I just had to run down and tell you all to take this off your Netflix.
Take care,
lono

I liked Head Of State, although, granted, it sucked fairly bad. It had enough nice bits with Chris Rock doing his Chris Rock thing, even though the whole thing felt like King Ralph or some such. Also, i found it a bit worrying that having a black president is presented as such a fantastical occurance, one of those "only in hollywood" things. I'm sure Rock didn't mean to put that across, but it semed like it was presented as something so insane it could only happen on the screen. Maybe thats the point, but it would be more commendable, i think, if the film had taken a "so what?" approach to the skin colour of our leading man, and not made it such an issue. In other words, having a black president shouldn't be treated like having an alien for president, which, a lot of the time, head of state seems to do.
Again, this is just a result of an inexperienced director, and Chris is fairly transparent in the commentary with regards his dissapointment in the film. Better luck next time, Chris Rock, i still think you're awful hilarious.
