Doctor Who Should Go Solo For A While

As reported by BC’s Daniel Woolstencroft, Billie Piper will leave Doctor Who at end of Series 2 during the two-part season finale, “Army Of Ghosts / Doomsday,” written by Russell Davies. Since the show’s return last year, a lot of people on fan sites have been at odds with her character (Rose Tyler) about whether or not she got too much attention compared to the main attraction – The Doctor. I hate to say it, but Rose ended up being a better-developed character than the Doctor himself.

Now with Billie Piper leaving, perhaps it’s time for Russell Davies and the other writers to focus on The Doctor and not give him a companion at all in the next series. Tom Baker requested an episode without a companion during his time as The Doctor. That episode, "The Deadly Assassin," took the show in a different direction and was a change of pace for the writers, who otherwise had to struggle to give both The Doctor and his companion air time. Unfortunately, I am not a part of the production team. Perhaps there is only a small minority of fans who would want such a thing anyway.

Perhaps The Doctor could have a series of companions throughout a few episodes, as they did with companion Harry Sullivan in a pervious series. This way if the character runs out of story, they can simply do away with him without having to wait until the end of the season to do so. I think it would also add more variety to the series.

With Christopher Eccelston as The Doctor, the chemistry could have been cemented, as several episodes in Series 2 made it seem as if he never left the show. Granted, part of the reason Eccelston left, in my estimation, is that the scripts were never quite as dramatic as what he was used to. “The Girl In The Fireplace” was one that I felt could have really worked with Christopher, since it was about love, which would fit perfectly with his edgy performance. I would also say that “The Impossible Planet / The Satan Pit” would have been have been good for him too, save a few script rewrites.

I need to have the title changed and fix a sentence that got a space uneeded.

Series One did have Adam as a brief companion and see how badly he did. Mickey this season lasted a few as a proper compoanion then he too left. So no, no more 'brief' companions, but maybe we can get two regular companions-one girl and one boy, like Peter Davison (Tegan and Turlough), or Patrick Troughton (Jamie and Zoe)? Series One tried that with Rose and Jack-and it worked- but the writers screwed that up.

I dont like Rose anymore she has become too arrogant and selfish a companion and her time in the sun is over. Or will be and I hope she doesnt come back any time soon. As for the Face of Boe's words, I too think another Time Lord survived-the Master. I say he is the real Big Bad Wolf, and thanks to Rose last year, he is now free and perhaps has a new body at last....
