Discovering Heroes: Destiny

After more than one million votes, NBC and Sprint announced the winning hero in the “Create Your Hero” campaign. November 10 saw the unveiling of the winning character, Santiago, as selected to star in the innovative online live action micro-series Heroes: Destiny.

The first of four episodes landed Monday, November 10 online at 9pm ET.

Colombian-born actor Roberto Urbina stars as Santiago, adding a sense of depth to the character chosen by the voters. The show’s writers and producers have come up with a story centered on Santiago and the four five-minute micro-series webisodes will bring it to life online.

Filmed in Los Angeles, Heroes: Destiny also stars Lina Esco from Cane and Andrea Thompson from 24. Eagle Egilsson directs.

The “Create Your Hero” campaign began during the last television season of Heroes. It gave fans the opportunity to select different characteristics of a new hero and piece him or her together using factors such as gender, special powers, physical features, name, and personality. Fans voted on a different attribute each week, fleshing out two ultimate character candidates. Santiago was one and Audrey was another. Santiago won out in the final voting process.

“For the first time ever, Sprint and NBC gave Heroes fans a hand in the creative process,” said Bill Morgan, the Senior VP of Corporate Marketing for Sprint. “And with the ability to vote and ultimately watch the new micro-series exclusively on mobile with their Sprint phones, we are demonstrating even more ways that our technology allows people to interact and be entertained.”

Santiago (Urbina) is an outwardly ordinary young man living in Lima, Peru. He loves soccer and rolls with the punches, but lately he’s been feeling an overpowering presence telling him to find his purpose. No, it isn’t his mother-in-law.

Santiago is influenced by his faith, his family, and his friends in his search for his destiny. He soon discovers that he has gifts that other human beings don’t. Not only is he movie star fetching, but Santiago has Accelerated Probability and Super Speed. Discovering his powers, Santiago has a choice to make: will he use them for good or for evil? Will he fight for what’s right or use his powers to skip out on restaurant tabs?

Of course, there’s only one way to find out the answer to that question. Check out Heroes: Destiny online and get in on a whole new wave of action and adventure with Santiago, the fan-chosen Hero. The next webisode hits the Internet on Monday, November 17, at 9pm ET.
