Desperate Housewives enjoyed hot ratings in its first season as it comes full circle with last night's season finale. The first episode began with Mary Alice Young doing her usual errands including picking up the dry-cleaning and finishing off with killing herself. Why in the world would a woman with a lovely home and a teen-aged son do this? We picked up clues along the way, but learned the complete story last night when Mike held Paul at gunpoint out in the middle of nowhere. Paul was surprised to learn Mike was after him for Dierdre not Mrs. Gruber and he told Mike what happened.
It was her that killed Dierdre not her husband, Paul, who killed Mrs. Gruber to protect the family secret. We see her life in Utah as Angela where she worked in the hospital. We see Mrs. Gruber's sister, Alicia Tillman in the background when we see Angela working. Angela led a quiet and desperate life as she and Paul wanted a child, but could not.
Dierdre appeared at the Young's Utah home with a dark-haired baby in arms. She was strung out and obviously having drug withdrawal. Dierdre knew Angela from the hospital because she always treated her like a person during rehab. She begged the Youngs for money and tried to sell her watch for $50. Angela would not give in. Then Dierdre mentioned that she overheard Angela talking to others about her desire to have kids. So Dierdre offers the baby in exchange for money. Hence, the Youngs become proud parents of Dana whose name changed to Zach.
Back at the hospital, Angela saw Dierdre come in unconscious heading for emergency care. We overhear employees asking about her baby and indicating there was no baby where they found her. Angela knew she needed to leave with Zach, so she and Paul headed out for Fairview based on the calendar she saw in the nurse's station.
A few years later, a cleaned up Dierdre appeared at the Youngs' home on Wisteria Lane as we know it. She claimed she stopped using drugs and wanted Dana back. It took a lot of money for her to track them down as they covered their tracks well. Of course, Mary Alice as she was called now, panicked and didn't want to give up Zach. Bicker, bicker. Dierdre hit Paul with a poker stick and headed for the stairs to get Zach, but Mary Alice stabbed her with a knife she had with her when she answered the door.

Nicely done! I wondered if someone was going to mention if Mike fathered Zach. That would explain the fascination with guns. Now, about that new neighbor..

Why isn't anyone talking about the new housewife??? THERE'S A NEW HOUSEWIFE PEOPLE! remember Edie sold a house and the people who moved in were black. I think that she is Alfe Woodard, I am not sure. Could someone find out for me?
