Teen Nick’s (Formerly The-N) major hit show, Degrassi, is back with an entirely new season, premiering this Friday, October 9 8PM ET. This season has it all — new characters, new storylines and new drama. And after viewing the premiere, it’s safe to say that this season is going to be pretty good.
The season opener (“Just Can’t Get Enough”) follows Peter (Jamie Johnston), who is a singer in Degrassi’s most popular band. Peter is dating Mia (Nina Dobrev), the school’s famous model. They are dubbed as “Mr. and Mrs. High School.” His life seems perfect until Mia gets a modeling contract in Paris and has to move. As a result, Peter turns to Crystal Meth.
There are two subplots: One revolving around the new girl, Jenna (Jessica Tyler). Clare (Aislinn Paul) wants to be friends with her, but Clare’s BFF Alli (Melinda Shanker) doesn’t want to lose her BFF to Jenna. The other one revolves around Student Council President Holly J (Charlotte Arnold) and her new boyfriend, Blue (Jordan Hudyma).
There are four news characters this season: Declan (Landon Liboiron), Fiona (Annie Clark), Jenna (Jessica Tyler) and Dave (Jahmil French). Declan and Fiona are siblings from the upper class. I really like them so far. There wasn’t much on Dave, so I don’t really have an opinion on him. Jenna is rather annoying so far (Not the actress, but the character), but hopefully that changes.
This is the ninth season of Degrassi, so some of the past storylines aren’t new. (Paige was raped, then Darcy was raped.) However, “Just Can’t Get Enough” was very original. I thought the whole crystal meth thing was very well written and hopefully it encourages kids to not do meth.
There’s always a lot of criticism against Jamie Johnston. A lot of people think he’s a bad actor. I don’t see it. I thought he was great as a meth addict. I also thought Landon Liboiron and Charlotte Arnold were good too. In general, all the acting was pretty good.
This season of Degrassi is going to be great. Then again, I always say that. Then again, it always is.

Very interested in Declan, which in my book means he's a good character so far and an excellent actor (it doesn't hurt he's cute). Not too much of an opinion on Fiona (very pretty though!), and Dave is pretty much nonexistent for me now.
As for Peter...I have a personal distaste for him. He's not a bad actor per se, but I find his character irritating, petty, and frankly quite boring. His relationship with Mia grew so stale to the point that I could care less if she went to Mars instead of Paris.
