According to Variety, Warner Brothers has put Neil Gaiman's Death: The High Cost of Living, long lingering on the shelf, into turnaround. In Gaiman's critically acclaimed Sandman graphic novels, Death is one of the seven Endless, human representations of abstract concepts such as Desire, Despair, Destiny, and Destruction. Visualized as a cheerful young woman, the character has been a favorite of Gaiman fans.
The film would be an adaptation of the original comic book story, which follows Death on the one day ever 100 years that she spends as a mortal being to appreciate the value of the lives she takes.
What's sure to get aficionados even more excited, though, is the fact that Gaiman is in negotiations to direct from his own script. Though it would be his first work behind the camera, no one is better equipped to helm the film. If Death actually gets off the ground, there could be hope for the full-blown Sandman adaptation fans have been clamoring for as well.
