Croc Hunter Steve Irwin To Be Buried At Australia Zoo, Daughter Bindi To Carry Conservation Torch

Family and friends of Steve Irwin, who died on Monday, Sept. 4, said their goodbyes on Saturday, according to MSNBC. The private service was held at 2pm at the Caloundra Gregson and Weight funeral home.

The family has received clearance to bury Irwin on the grounds of his Australia Zoo in Beerwah. A friend, quoted in The Sunday Mail, said, "'The council gave the family permission to bury Steve at the zoo and we think they're going to erect a monument there so visitors can continue to pay their respects.'"

Family is expected to meet with police to discuss an upcoming public memorial because of the logistical challenges involving the large crowd anticipated to attend.

Colleagues of the Irwins have stated that Steve and Terri's daughter Bindi will now carry the conservation torch her parents lit 10 years ago. The young girl's wildlife documentary series will continue as previously planned.

Fans around the world, still reeling over the loss of the conservationist and documentary star, continue to donate to the Wildlife Warriors foundation. These donations, along with a recent government grant of $2.5 million, will help fund what Irwin had hoped would become the largest wildlife hospital in the world. Staff there stated this work would be their "final gift to Steve."

Google reported searches for information on the Crocodile Hunter's death topped the inquiry list.

Animal Planet will air a six-hour tribute to Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin today from noon-6pm.

I am so pleased about this decision and that the family didn't go with a state burial. This is ideal. I can just hear him saying "Crikey! Why didn't I think of that, eh?"

Did anyone consider the fact that Steve Irwin is dead but Steve-o is still alive. He's probably humping a stingray right now. I can't believe Steve went to college. That new guy Joe sucks ass. He makes the mail song lame. I've got some shoes coming in the mail today. I wear a size 13. My feet are pretty big. My hands are too. I can palm a basketball. Football is my favorite sport. I love U of M. I'm from Michigan. I've lived here all my life. I'd like to visit Australia. I'd love to go snorkling in the Great barrier reef. There are a lot of stingrays. I heard Steve Irwin got killed by one. Did anyone consider the fact that Steve Irwin is dead but Steve-o is still alive. He's probably humping a stingray right now...

I was very upset to hear about Steve Irwin. And I am glad that he is being buried in his beloved zoo. I am glad that Terry is still letting the show go on with their daughter, Bindi. I hope Bindi follows in her fathers footsteps. With the help of her mother. I wish them all my best.

I feel so sorry for Steve's wife and children. Especially Bindi. She loved her Dad so much. I have also worried how Steve's best Bud "Wes" is doing? We have not heard anything from him.
God Bless them all and I am sure they will all carry on Steve's work.

Wes has been attending press conferences. He's obviously very shaken and as stunned as we would imagine him to be.

I am a 45 yr old mother of four and went back to college to work with children, I have worked with the scouting program and tried to instill a love for the wilderness, but animals were secondary, this has changed "animals rule", Steve's show inspired me to take wildlife conservation and pacific northwest animals classes instead of the regular science classes required, he motivated me to learn more about our world and overcome uncalled fears. There will never be another like him, but I know bindi and bob will lead the way and the world will continually be touched by the Irwin family and all those that he considered family. I will never stop watching the reruns, because I always learn something new. Our prayers are with the Irwin family. I know terri is suffering but she will always be an example to me and the world on what a wildlife warrior really is. Terri rules! sherri

Steve was a big part in our familys lives. We watched his showes everyday. And my little sister that is 8, looked up to Steve so much. She called him her "HERO" and she wanted to be just like him. She wants to go to the Australia Zoo and work with his crew. When we found our what happended all of our hearts dropped and our prayers and love goes to Terri, Bindi Sue and Bob and the rest of his family.

I send my condonlances to the family, the world has lost a great man, one has helped others to understand animals. The day I heard of his death added to my list of days that will live forever (1) challenger (2) twin towers (3) steve irwin . There is one things God has granted them both, thier children I know Bendi was the apple of his eye and Bob is his spitting image. My heart goes out to all of you for I to have lost a loved one not long ago. My prayers are with all of you.

Steve's death has broken our hearts, he was one of a kind! He was the most sincere, loving, gentle
(yet strong and manly)human being to walk this earth facing death every single day. He knew the risk he took and that there would be only one mistake. He died as he lived, doing what he so loved. His passion for his family, his friends,
his mission and the animals touched all of our hearts. Steve has left his mark for eternity and will never be forgotten. We truly grieve with all of you and our prayers for courage, comfort and strength are said each day in your behalf. Steve has many rewards waiting for him in Heaven as he so richly deserves. He was everyone's GREAT
    WARRIOR and HERO!! God bless.....

Ever since i was a little girl i spent my Sunday mornings watching the crocodile hunter - and now, less than 2 weeks from the day i fly to Australia for a 9 week holiday, it still hasnt really sunk in that my hero will not be there in person.

I have never been so taken back by the death of someone i had heard of, but never met. Having said that, nor have many other people!

You never really realise how well known someone is until something like this happens! I remember going into work that day, and EVERYONE knowing who he was! I was expecting people to go, "steve who?" but no one did! Every one knew who he was and what he done - he will be missed by most across the world!

Bindi, you are the bravest little girl i have ever seen and your Dad will be so, so ,so proud of you - i really hope you, your mum Terri and brother Bobby can pull together and live life to the max - no doubt you will follow in his footsteps.

I look forward to visiting the zoo he created - you will be missed by more people than you realise!

Rest in peace Steve - my ultimate icon

    Lisa :-)

I have been really shaken by the death of the Crocodile Hunter. I lay in bed at night or while I am at work and find myself thinking "there will never be another Steve Irwin". It is so hard to beleive that someone with such a lust for life, family and animals is gone. My heart breaks for Steve's family, but there is no doubt that they were truly loved 100% by him and he knew that they felt the same. Time will heal the pain of his loss but we will NEVER forget such a great man.
