Critics' Choice Awards: The Social Network named Best Picture

Part of: Awards Season Watch

The Social Network continued its awards season dominance, picking up three top awards at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The movie, widely touted as the finest film of 2010, picked up top honours as Best Picture, Best Director (David Fincher) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin).

Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending epic Inception swept the technical categories, and was named Best Action Movie. Acting frontrunners Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Natalie Portman (Black Swan) nabbed Best Actor and Actress respectively, as Melissa Leo (Best Supporting Actress) and Christian Bale (Best Supporting Actor) took home awards for The Fighter, which also copped Best Acting Ensemble.

@Raj: 'The Social Network' is a brilliant film, but not the best of 2010 in my estimation.

I am recording the awards now to watch later. Thanks for the info. My sense of what's hot and what's not is getting better because the winners are ones I predicted were Oscar or prize worthy, especially Inception since it was released so early in the year.

The fourth award won by The Social Network, for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's excellent score, was also well deserved. Black Swan, however, is repellent nonsense, and giving awards to Natalie Portman's weird, passive performance is just cuckoo.
