I think we've probably all heard the stories — mole people living under the streets of Manhattan, their skin practically translucent from the lack of light, their eyes nothing but beady red dots, their teeth sharpened into massive fangs which allow for biting unsuspecting subway trains (their main source of nutrition). Could the stories be true? Might today be the day that a poor S train takes its last ride between Times Square and Grand Central? Or, as the publicity folks put it:
Every city has its secrets. And, you’d be surprised to learn what lies below the surface of some. Turning history upside-down, Cities of the Underworld, debuts its third season Sunday, October 26 at 9pm ET/PT on History™.
Don Wildman is back, and he’s tearing through the streets of the world’s most famous cities to uncover secrets hundreds of feet beneath the pavement. Part history buff, part urban explorer— Don tells the story that you don’t get above ground. This season, he takes viewers into meandering combat tunnels, mafia escape routes, underground vaults, secret surveillance nerve centers, and forgotten underworlds that have been lost to the hands of time. Visit the official site to play The Underground Photo Hunt or join other fans on Facebook.
I'm no
t saying that show is going to cover New York this season (they might, I just don't know it), but they'll definitely be visiting London, Okinawa, Sicily, and Las Vegas among other places. And, I can promise you that good old Don Wildman isn't afraid of a little underground action (or, if he is, he hides it really, really well).
To celebrate, commemorate, and dissipate the return of Cities of the Underworld (premiering October 26 at 9pm ET/PT), Blogcritics Magazine is teaming up with the nice folks over at the History Channel to give away some swell prizes. Three lucky winners will each receive a magic changing beverage mug and a Leatherman tool with a flashlight. I can't promise that either of the items will help you fight off Manhattan's mole people, but it couldn't hurt to try (unless they catch you).
The rules, regulations, and what-not (it should be noted that there are a few more on the entry page as well):
- Fill out the entry form.
- Entries must be received by November 30, 2008.
- The winners will be drawn on or after December 1, 2008.
- The winners will be notified by e-mail and in the comments section below.
- You must be a U.S. resident to enter.
