Jimmy Smits co-stars with Nestor Carbonell and Hector Elizondo, at least in this clip, of the new drama Cane. The show centers on a family who has made a fortune in the rum and sugar business. The family is at a crossroads and the son (Carbonell) and the brother-in-law (Smits) of the Duque family have differing views on the future of the business. This clip has the two butting heads with Elizondo in between as they talk about pursuing sugar, as opposed to rum, as the primary export. I cannot say that it excites me, but the three featured in the clip I like.
The final show in this group of clips is the vampiric series Moonlight. Taking cues from Forever Knight and Angel, it features a vampire working as a detective. I like the idea, and still have attachments to Angel, so I am interested in how this one plays out, but this clip has left me less than excited. In the bit, we see Alex O'Loughlin, as Nick St. John, in his first moments as a member of the undead, being turned by his lover. This really left me flat, what with the voiceover and all — it just seemed like I had seen it many times before. Still, I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. We shall see.
We shall see, indeed.

"Viva Laughlin" will be on Sunday night (in the time slot held down by "The Amazing Race" this past season) not Thursday. I'm not sure how it will go over either. The British series "Blackpool", on which "Viva Laughlin" was based, ran six episodes and was British. This will (Jackman and CBS hope) run 13 and maybe 22 weeks for an American audience.

I heard that Aussie actor ALEX O'LOUGHLIN is going out with Aussie princess HOLLY VALANCE (she is mega multi-talented, she used to be on NEIGHBOURS, now she is a singer/actress/artist/model & martial arts fighter).

Viva Laughlin, where drama is accented by iconic music;
Though the odds are stacked against him, Ripley doesn't miss a beat, even when he becomes embroiled in a murder investigation after the body of his ex-business partner is found at his club. At home, Ripley uses his dry wit to adjust to the demands of his family: his gorgeous wife, Natalie (Madchen Amick, "ER"), wants more attention; his teenage daughter, Cheyenne (Ellen Woglom, "The O.C."), wants his approval; and his son, Jack (Carter Jenkins, "Surface"), wants to help him at work.
All of this adversity would defeat a lesser man, but for the outgoing and passionate Ripley there's no such thing as bad news, only deals to be struck and wagers to be won in the intoxicating neon glow of Laughlin, where the cards are on the table, romance is in the air and lively music is on the stage. Eric Winter ("Wildfire") and D.B. Woodside ("24") also star. Directed by Gabriele Muccino ("The Pursuit of Happyness"). Golden Globe Award nominee Hugh Jackman, John Palermo ("X-Men: The Last Stand"), Bob Lowry ("Huff"), Paul Telegdy and Peter Bowker ("Viva Blackpool") are executive producers for BBC Worldwide Productions, Seed Productions, CBS Paramount Network Television in association with Sony Pictures Television.

" Okay, it’s not like I wasn’t interested in the Tony Awards, but for me the most interesting part was the ads for Viva Laughlin! because it’s one of my most anticipated shows. "
The most interesting aspect of Viva Laughlin! is the tendency to break out into pop songs (which, as I noted earlier, is more Moulin Rouge than the Cop Rock everyone seems compelled to compare it to) but that gets barely mentioned in these ads. Instead, CBS is emphasizing the plot of Viva Laughlin!

"Stated by someone"
Last time this year, the two shows I was anticipating most were Heroes and Ugly Betty. This year, it’s Pushing Daisies and Viva Laughlin!. I’m hoping to have good luck on that, this year.
TV Week’s a collection of clips from the upcoming falls series. I’ve seen most of them, but it’s the first time I’ve seen a clip of Viva Laughlin!.
The clip proves that everyone bringing up Cop Rock is barking up the wrong tree. This series doesn’t resemble Cop Rock in the slightest, watching Hugh Jackman sing a lounged-up version of “Sympathy for the Devil” makes it clear that this show will more like a TV version of Moulin Rouge. This one just landed behind Pushing Dasies as my second most anticipated upcoming debut.
(Now if only there were a Viva Laughlin! preview in the bunch.)
"This Show adds a new depth in Entertainment, I believe this show will have Lots of to offer us hungry viewers for many years!!" "Stay Tuned"

Ten promos for VIVA LAUGHLIN, totaling more than six minutes, will be shown throughout the live three-hour broadcast. The ads will include a two minute and a one minute promo, as well as shorter spots, which will feature music from the songs "Viva Las Vegas," by Elvis Presley, "Sympathy for the Devil," by The Rolling Stones, "One Way or Another," by Blondie, and "Let It Ride," by Bachman Turner Overdrive, all of which is music heard in the pilot episode of the series.

Networks Square Up for Next Ratings Cycle Michael Bodey, The Australian, June 21, 2007
A STRONG ratings tussle looks set to emerge in the second half of the television year with Nine and Seven scheduling program launches for media and advertisers to showcase their wares.
Nine's director of programming Michael Healy is particularly confident about legal drama Damages, starring Rose Byrne and Glenn Close, and a musical drama co-produced by Hugh Jackman, Viva Laughlin. Either may be programmed this year.
