Brightcove Broadband Launches

Brightcove has opened the doors on its new broadband TV service.

The site has been in the works for more than a year and has received some powerful backing. AOL has partnered to the tune of $16 million and deals have been set with the Discovery Channel, The N, Reuters, National Lampoon and more to deliver content.

All of these publishers and producers are drawn to Brightcove because we have uniquely put together all of the pieces needed to launch an Internet TV business," said Jeremy Allaire. "From publishing, to distribution, to advertising, to syndication, Brightcove lets all of these content owners focus on creating great content, branding and packaging that content, and marketing/distributing it all in ways where they maintain control."

The service lets content owners "from independent producers to major broadcast networks" provide content through its platform. The company will eventually allow content owners the ability to use different ways to deliver content, including pay per view, ads, DVD sales, free viewing and more. Right now though, it's releasing everything free. The other options are expected to roll this summer.
