Dana Delany, the Emmy winning actress best known for her work on China Beach, is finally coming to Wisteria Lane. After turning down the role of Bree Van De Kamp three times, Delany is reportedly either close to signing—or has signed a deal—with producers of the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives.
Thank God she turned them down the first, second, and third time around though. If she hadn't, that would’ve meant I would have never experienced the brilliance that is Marcia Cross.
As it turns out, TV Guide is reporting that Delany is in serious talks to join Desperate Housewives as a regular playing the part of Katherine, Bree's long-lost sister.
Katherine, a former neighbor who is coming home after being away for more than a decade married to a younger man (described as “the best-looking gynecologist in town”), comes back home to Wisteria Lane along with her 17-year-old daughter—who is said to be a bit of a troublemaker herself. In keeping with the always prim and proper character of Bree herself, Katherine is also described as a conservative Republican—but one with a "mastery of passive/aggressiveness."
Finally, a good storyline for Bree that doesn't involve contemplating whether her boyfriend/fiance is a psycho, or one of her children reaking havoc on planet Earth.
Desperate Housewives fans are desperate (pun intended) for some juicier storylines to rev up the show again in its fourth season. I for one, am hoping it focuses heavily on Bree, like season two, so maybe Marcia Cross can finally get the Emmy she's been robbed of year after year.
