Bratz Star Profile: Chelsea Staub

Her major motion picture, Bratz, is due out on DVD November 27. (Psst... Parents, you can pre-order the movie now at Amazon. It'll make a great Christmas present). She has appeared in hit shows Wizards of Waverly Place and Summerland. She's just been filming the pilot for Disney Channel show, J.O.N.A.S!, with teen boy band hotties Nick, Kevin, and Joe Jonas. Take a good look at Chelsea Staub, everyone, because she's going to go far.

Every actress starts out somewhere. Chelsea grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and when she turned six, she tried out for a local play at the Kids Youth Theater. She got one line ("Isn't he handsome?" or something of the sort) From there, her parts kept getting bigger and bigger. Now, she's on the big screen.

Unlike her character in the movie, Chelsea was totally sweet when sitting in with BC Magazine. She plays Meredith, the villian of the Bratz movie. Her character actually coined the word Bratz to describe main characters — and friends in real life — Yasmin (Nathalia Ramous), Jade (Janel Parrish — who also sat down for an interview with BC Magazine), Cloe (Skyler Shaye), and Sasha (Logan Browning). She is determined to pull the Bratz apart and she'll do whatever it takes. She is a lot like Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) of High School Musical. Although, as Chelsea pointed out, Meredith is a lot more sneaky about it.

When I asked Chelsea if she liked playing the bad girl, she responded quickly, "Yes. I love it, actually. You know, growing up, I always wanted to play the good girl. I mean what girl doesn't want to be Cinderella or the princess... I just had so much to work with [as Meredith]."

If she could play any other character, she would be sporty Brat, Chloe, because, "She has funny sequences. She's the clumsy one. Plus, she did this David Beckham soccer movie that was awesome."

Of course, the mean girl throws the best, most expensive party. On camera, it was only twenty minutes of buzz, but the scene took five days to film! It's the biggest blow-out of the year: MTV is filming it, Meredith is riding an elephant, and everyone who is anyone is there. Chelsea tells me that this is her favorite scene to shoot, "It was a blast. The house we shot at was worth 16 million dollars. It was unbelievable. I got to ride an elephant. I have a dance number. I was pushed into the pool by an elephant. I was pushed into the cake."

I'm offering translation services for the Hebrew above, comment #3. I'm not guaranteeing accuracy - but I'm not getting paid either. The reason I'm offering the translation is that on a lot of computers, her comment may appear as gibberish. Also, this is to announce the launch of the Kossover-Gallin Writers' Group of Israel. For more information, go to my blogspot, Ruvy's Roost at the URL above, and dig out my e-amil address and contact me there. Tell me about your writing needs.

First of all this is a female writing, probably a teenager. I suspect that her name is Hanna. She signs herself as Hannushhhhhh. She says:

I love the film and the Bratz are really "there". I have 8 Bratz dolls, 6 DVD's and two computer games, a play-clothes box[?] and more. In short, I'm burning over them and it's worth seeing the film.

I gotta say that I was a bit freaked out to see the Hebrew on the BlogCritics front page in the right column. Thought my computer was being bizarre, until I read it and realized that it was actual real Hebrew words. I didn't know that my computer spoke Hebrew on American websites. Cool.

Correction to translation provided in comment #4.

I love the film and the Bratz are really "there". I have 8 Bratz dolls, 6 DVD's and two computer games, clothes, board games and more. In short, I love them (literally "I'm burning over them") and it's worth seeing the film.

Alas, being an English language site, I booted the Hebrew comment. Thanks for the translation work though, Ruvy.

Chelsea is also in the new Disney Channel Original Movie "Minute Man" due out in January. The movie stars Jason Dolley (Cory in the House) and is about a time machine. Chelsea plays Jason's love interest. Should be fun!
