Box Office Update for 11/4-11/6: Chicken Little

Part of: Box Office Update

Not a bad week at the box office. The list is topped by the two major new releases. Two other spots are filled by films whose releases expanded. Another spot is held by a film that is just refusing to let go.

Chicken Little debuted in the top spot with over $40 million dollars, becoming the first Disney animation to top that mark since The Lion King. Not that I am comparing those two. Following that is Jarhead which did better than many had expected.

George Clooney's Good Night and Good Luck and Steve Martin's Shopgirl both leaped into the top ten as they rolled out into more theaters. Clooney's film is a wonderfully concise work, a snapshot of history. I have not yet seen Martin's film, but have heard very good things.

Meanwhile, a little further down the list, Flightplan is refusing to let go. It is clinging to that 10 spot in its 7th week of release. Moving back up, Saw II has displayed a decent amount of staying power in week 2.

We will have to wait and see how the list shakes down next week. Will the low budget films continue to climb? Can the little chicken cling to the top spot? Time will tell.
