Box Office Update for 11/11-11/13: Chicken Little

Part of: Box Office Update

I bet Disney is happy. The performance of Chicken Little has been fantastic. For the second week it sits atop the box office chart, dropping only 21% from its debut week. It just keeps packing them in. I only wish the film was better, it isn't near the level of Pixar's least work.

In new release news, four new films have debuted in the top 10. The first is Zathura, a fantasy from the writer of Jumanji and the director of Elf, Jon Favreau. I saw this and found it to be much better than I expected, and possibly better than Jumanji. Also appearing is Derailed, the new thriller starring Jennifer Aniston and Clive Owen. Next up is 50 Cent's big screen debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin', which brought less than expected numbers. Rounding out the new appearances is the new version of Pride and Prejudice at the number 10 spot.

Jarhead did decent business in its second week. I also saw that this past weekend, it is an excellent film with some gorgeous cinematography and fine performances from its leads. Saw II continues to bring them, which is rather surprising for a horror film, and more than signals that we will inevitably see a third.

Despite what I perceive as minimal advertising efforts, both Dreamer and Prime continue to bring in enough to keep them in the top ten.

Next is sure to be ruled by the coming of the child wizard.
