Box Office Update 5/8-5/10: Star Trek Warps to the Top - Page 2

Part of: Box Office Update

Next Day Air is sixth in its debut weekend. It is an interesting film that is not exactly what it is advertised as. Rather than a stoner comedy, we get a Tarantino/Ritchie-inspired action comedy with everyone trying to get their hands on a bag of cocaine. It is interesting, just a little different than expected. Worth checking out.

The remainder of this weeks top ten is comprised of more holdovers as everything sort of settles down behind the oncoming blockbusters.

Next week only has one new film entering wide release. The film is Ron Howard's sequel to The DaVinci Code, Angels & Demons. Tom Hanks returns to the lead role for this new religiously themed thriller.

Two movies dropped off the top ten this week: Fighting (11) and State of Play (12).

Box Office Predictions Recap

Not a bad week for my guesses, I nailed the top three, the bottom two, and one in the middle. I was even able to get a few of the grosses in the correct general area — although I did a terrible job at guessing where Wolverine would end up. I got the position, but it dropped a lot more than I was expecting. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, the movie is pretty bad. It will be interesting to see how fast it drops, and if Star Trek posts better returns in its second weekend.

Here is how the field matched up:
