Comedies like Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin have certainly had a profound effect on America, and the newest comedic release on DVD and Blu-ray has a lot to offer as well. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is another masterpiece brought to viewers by Judd Apatow and company, the same crew behind those two movies. The movie, produced by Apatow and directed by Nicholas Stoller, is very entertaining from the get-go and the DVD release offers a lot of extras as well.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is about a composer by the name of Peter Bretter (Jason Segel, who also wrote the screenplay) who has spent five years madly in love with his girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell). She is the big-time television star of a highly rated crime show, Crime Scene: Scene of the Crime. When Sarah breaks up with Peter (on a hilarious day where he was expecting sex rather than a sudden breakup), Peter is absolutely stunned and very sad. He finds it immensely difficult to get over her.
Turning to sex with random girls in search of a rebound, Peter gets exceptionally scared of acquiring an STD, so he doesn’t know what to do. His random sexual hookups only emphasize his void to him even more. Peter turns to his step-brother Brian Bretter (Bill Hader), who comes up with an idea to help clear his mind: a nice single getaway to beautiful Hawaii. However, when he finally arrives on the island, he finds his worst nightmare and worst possible circumstance: Sarah Marshall and her new British vocalist boyfriend, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), have also decided to take a trip to the island at the same time. Not to mention, they are also staying at the same resort.
This movie is a creative and absolutely hilarious story about how Peter goes about his vacation in Hawaii, as well as his recovery from a relationship that ended abruptly. It is one of the best comedies of the year because of its small jokes and adult-oriented humor.
