Under the ringing anarcho-democratic maxim of "People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people," V For Vendetta is set in a futuristic totalitarian Britain, telling the story of a mild-mannered young woman (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (Hugo Weaving) known only as "V."
Charismatic and skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Portman's character uncovers the truth about V’s background, she also discovers the truth about herself, and emerges as his unlikely ally in his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with oppression, cruelty and corruption.
Also starring Stephen Rea and John Hurt, directed by James McTeigue, V For Vendetta is produced by Joel Silver, The Wachowski Brothers of the Matrix trilogy fame, and Grant Hill from a screenplay by The Wachowski Brothers, based upon the Vertigo comic book series.
Our reviewers have jumped into the fray:
Movie Review: V for Vendetta
Behind this mask is a man, and behind this man is an idea. And ideas are bulletproof.

Movie Review: V for Vendetta
Overwrought dialogue, convoluted back stories: exactly the kinds of things that would make the film a cult classic.

Movie Review: V for Vendetta
A good cast and some occasionally brilliant dialogue add up to a whole that is less than the sum of its parts.

not that big a Zinf fan myself, prefer dryer wine - more broadly, I agree the title of this is kind of silly/cheesy
