This week is the grand finale for American Idol - will it be Bo or Carrie, or should I say "Carrie or Bo"? We are subtly and not so subtly influenced by any number of factors in our preferences and...

One show is about romance, the other about song. Some opinions on both.

American Idol: Vonzell Returned to Sender
It's crunch time on American Idol and someone had to come up short. After a long and, overall, quite wonderful tenure, Vonzell Solomon reached the end of the line. One of the most likable personalities ever to grace this competition,...

American Idol--And Then There Were Two...
The finals show that everyone has been expecting was guaranteed tonight when Vonzell Solomon was booted from the show after last night's performances of three songs each by the final Idol trio. It's great to watch these final couple of...

American Idol: All Aboard the Bo Train!
The American Idol train chugged into the last station before the finale tonight and Bo Bice left in the driver's seat. Ryan Seacrest started things off by proclaiming how incredibly close the vote was for the three finalists---according to him, only...

Clive Davis and This Business of American Idol: Whose Music Is It, Anyway?
Tonight Clive Davis will appear on American Idol and one half-way expects his entrance to be heralded by men in tights blowing on yard-long trumpets and young maidens strewing his path with rose petals. Such is the reverence with which Mr....

Arab Version of American Idol: Why There Is Hope For the World
The Arab world's equivalent of American Idol, Star Academy, concluded in April with the crowning of Saudi Arabian singer Hisham Abdul-Rahman as "Star" on the Lebanese LBC network. I love the awkward enthusiasm of the announcement of Hisham's...

American Idol: Lights Dim for Anthony, the Fedoration of Love
A sweet song left American Idol tonight. But somehow I don't think this is the last the music world has heard of Anthony Federov. The show opened as they always do, but this time we searched the faces of the contestants...

What is going on with America...are they all tone deaf? Someone with star quality is voted out and Anthony and Scott are still continuing. I don't think I will ever watch American Idol again...it gets more ridiculous every year. The judging should be left up to professionals who really know music and what it is all about.

I agree with your sentiments ladies, but remember that surprise and outrage are part of what make the show go

It's more about the 'brand' and merchandising opportunities than music per se! A shameful pleasure.

My husband and I are arguing over the past winners: are they not, in this order --
Kelley Clarkson
Ruben Stoddard
Fantasia
and this is the Fourth Competition?
THANK YOU for your help.

How darn you people of America elimate Arwar so soon. He is amazing and has a unique voice. He should of been in the top two. If I lived in America he would of got my vote.
The past winners in order are:
Kelly Clarkson 2002
Ruben Studdard 2003
Fantasia 2004
now Carrie Underwood (whom shouldn't of win)
And I only agreed with Ruben Studdard, at least with Ruben as winner I hear more about my fav. Clay Aiken.

Season 5 is certainly shaping up to be a worth while watch.

I am not much of a fan of the audition round: too much emphasis on tragically deluded fools who suck out loud
