Ah, summer TV. Light, frothy, and fun. Topping the listings this season is Celebrity Circus, a Cirque du Soleil-style competition which pits celebrities against one another — and daunting acrobatics. Hosted by Joey Fatone from 'N Sync, and judged by a panel of professional gymnasts and circus performers, Celebrity Circus makes you think that anyone can be an acrobat. It worked too — after watching the rehearsal, and seeing all these non-pros make it look so easy, I thought I wanted to run away and join the circus.
"Circque du Soliel is beautiful and amazing," says actress and model Rachel Hunter. "Being involved in this, realizing how hard it is and how much work goes into it, it’s been a really awesome experience."
At the Tuesday afternoon rehearsal, we get a taste of this week's acts. Wee Man rocks with an act that combines "flying straps" and skateboarding. Stacey Dash looks at home on the trapeze bungees ("I used to be a ballerina as a teenager, so I think that comes into play here," she says). Antonio Sabato Jr. sets hearts aflutter with his aerial silks act. And Hunter channels Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge with her graceful, sultry performance on the cerceau (a favorite of both hers and Dash's).
Let's let the pictures tell the story:
