BBC America Announces Doctor Who Premiere Date

He is coming.

BBC America announced today that on Saturday April 17, 2010 the TARDIS will return to the United States and will be bringing the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) with him.  This puts the start of Doctor Who in the U.S. only slightly behind the premiere in the UK (a Feb. 20 BBC trailer, see below, identified the new series as beginning "Easter 2010" which is April 4).  The series – as has been highly publicized – will not only feature a new Doctor, but a new showrunner as well; Steven Moffat (Coupling) is now the man at the helm. 

Also announced today were some upcoming guests, including Alex Kingston (ER).  Kingston has appeared previously on the series ("Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead").  Fans will most assuredly be waiting for her appearance – slated for the fourth and fifth episodes of this season according to IMDb – which will hopefully tie up some loose ends.

Of the other potentially interesting things in the press release were the titles of the first three episodes of the 13-episode season:  "The Eleventh Hour," "The Beast Below," and "Victory of the Daleks."  Quite clearly the Eleventh Doctor had better be at the top of his game by episode three.
