We have come a long way from the starry-eyed dreamer staring at you and declaring, "It’s about the music man" to the corporate monster in his top hat saying while he strokes his handle bar mustache "I think we can make money off of this one.” The truth of it all is the image industry is just looking for the next big seller not the next Beatles. The result of course is what we witnessed on SNL when Aslee Simpson went to "sing" her second of two songs. After being caught with her pants down Simpson retreated like the fire alarm had just been pulled (but of course not before doing some insane dance that made her look even more of a fool). After this happened she blamed it on acid reflux disease. Acid reflux disease??? Now I am not even going to get into why acid reflux is now a DISEASE.........cough cough (MONEY) but are we to believe nobody could get her a freaking Tums. Maybe since acid reflux is now classified as a disease we are not meant to understand its effects because lets face it who amongst us knows and is an expert in diseases it just sounds so complicated. If any of you have this "disease" you would know that it wouldn't have caused such a thing. Maybe when the next future American pop princesses gets caught being a fraud it will just be because they have bad hair day disease and they left their new wonder drug from the sweet drug companies, who care only for the health of Americans, at home that day. But wait Ashlee Simpson is talented person because she writes her own songs!!! I myself have written songs too and dress up as batman and save the world from danger all the time. Point being we can all make up whatever we want. Why can’t Simpson just go onto the today show or wherever it was she told her insane tale and tell us the truth? Look into the camera and tell us that it is about who you know and what you look like today not about the music. Tell us that because she is the sister of Jessica Simpson there are people out there that thought they could make money off of her. Tell us that she is just in it for the fame and money not because she wants to be a meaningful performer. Tell us that her songs are written for her and that all she does is sing them in a studio that doctors it up and makes it sound great. Don't tell us that you always sing live and this is the first time you haven't. Maybe she should just tell us that the dog ate her singing voice. This is about money not music the image industry can make anybody a star providing they are good looking and able to dance to take the focus off their lips while "singing.” The point is that we should not act surprised when something like this happens. We should except that this is what the industry has become and until we discover that the only way to stop it is by not buying the music of such performers we are only encouraging them and their producers to shell out more and more of this trash. The only way for the average everyday person to fight back is by taking away what matters most to these people…..money. It used to be you heard songs that meant something to the people writing them and to the people listening to them. Today songs do not mean a damn thing but another vacation for someone who is already overpaid. What was once the music industry an industry that cared about the music and the meaning and purpose of song is now the image industry one that cares only for money and profit.

being an artist myself, i've been in the studios many times. you cannot make someone sound good if they truly suck. so hop off her gonads. she can sing, acusticly permitting. i've done shows where we play a track in the background for the vocals but softer. they help you stay on time with the music and they help you out if your voice suddenly gives out. it happens people, get the hell over it. if you cant stand someone making a mistake, deal. she is an artist. why try to do what everyone else thinks you should? if the poor girl is sick, let her be sick and do what it takes to please her audience. background vocals are something almost EVERYONE uses in performances. it's the same dam thing as back up vocalists. what do you think the other people with the microphones are doing at a toby keith concert? just get over it. she messed up. just like i'm sure everyone of you out there is perfect too.

I barely know who this Ashlee person is but I did watch the video. The people who are saying that it was just a backing vocal to help her with cues etc. are neglecting the fact that the recorded vocals we heard came through the PA not her headphones. There's a big difference between listening to a backing vocal that only you can hear (not that big of a deal and I suspect most singers do it), and having the pre-recorded vocal so far up in the mix that it drowns out any actual singing you might do (a rip-off) which is what I saw.

I find it is funny that Ashlee's fans go to such lengths to defend her when they are the ones she ripped off. While her sister can belt out perfect pitch vocals anywhere, Ashlee is a bit of a hanger on who hasn't got the natural talent nor the dedication to practice her chops. There are many, many siblings who have tried to cash in and failed - Tito and Jermaine come to mind - they just weren't frontmen.
Soon Ashlee will go back to kissing Jessica's ass and reverting to her true talent as handmaiden.
Speaking of beauty, Jessica certainly isn't the perfect beauty but her imperfections gel into a harmonious quality now aided by the best of make up artists.
