which explains the whole thing. If anyone out there watched the show, Ashlee has severe acid reflux disease and lost her voice a few hours before the show. Yet she still wanted to go on, so she decided to play the voice track and at least try to sing over it. Later she got a cortisone shot and her voice was okay but went into shock when the wrong song played, which was why she didn't "try"

I was amazed at how comfortable she was on that first song. Lorne Michaels is the Fraud. Well, and so is Ashlee and her father. We do know singers are human and that's why shows get cancelled. She is MILLI_VANILLI all over again. As bad as I felt for her, I hope she is OVER. Lorne Michaels should be OVER too for lying every week of every year for twenty-five plus years. I watch these performers every week and I saw the Spice Girls voices quake, unlike the record, when they performed. Ok yeah, It was obviously a recording because when the track began Ashlee's microphone was at her side, near her knee and words were coming out of the speakers. Unless ms simpson has magical powers and can sing out of her knee caps, this was recorded earlier. As a musician, I am always offended when someone lip-syncs. I've had nights where my voice is ratched, but I still go out and perform, even if I can't talk the next day. It's called a job. I am paid by people to entertain, but I guess some people will pay just to watch someone dance (mental note...). These people do not appreciate live music. They typically will go to dance clubs and not to see live bands because they are uneducated on the true power of music. Ever watch a band play a song and tangent into a completly different song or feel? That is power of interpretation, and that, my friends, is what makes live performances the treat they should be. Lip synchers are all too worried about being perfect, when its the imperfections that makes this world beautiful, and makes us human. There is nothing like nailing a song live, and the rush from it can not be matched.
For some reason, many people are protecting Ashlee from shame and ridicule because she could not perform live. As she said on her website: "I can't cancel something like 'SNL... You and I know that even if I synched on it or not, I'd still get seen by millions, maybe even make a few more fans."
It's all about being seen, isn't it?
You can tell the quality of a musician on their live performance! The only musicians on that SNL stage were her band. If you listen close, they start into the right song "Autobiography" (listen to the drums), then as soon as they heard the vocal track, they switched to her "Pieces of Me" song. See... that's the power of being a musician... being able to adapt.
And that is TRUE TALENT! (Pick up an instrument sometime and see what I mean)
Btw... recording studios can do amazing things now (pitch correction, vocal analyzers)... so don't just assume that someone is brilliant singer just by their album.

I really can't understand how anybody could defend Ashlee Simpson. Just because you may like her album, her stlye, or her personality (as portrayed in the media), it doesn't mean that she necessarily has huge talent. An artist who can't preform their own music live simply should not play live - Let her sell a bunch of albums, that's fine. But understand that her voice undergoes massive technical reconstruction before it's combined with the music - and people shouldn't let what they hear on her record be confused with her true, raw talent. There's two sides to an artists popularity - their record and their live preformances. It is morally wrong to attempt to gain popularity through lying. And lip synching is lying. Ashlee and her press immediately came out with three to four different excused as to why the preformance went wrong - this sends a clear message of a coverup. It's as simple as that. True, I may not be a huge fan of pop music, but I certainly give credit where credit is due - and Ashlee Simpson has proven that she does not deserve the credit she gains in her "live preformances."
