An Interview With Sera Gamble, Supernatural Producer and Writer, Part Two - Comments Page 2

In Part 2, Sera Gamble talks about Eric Kripke and answers fan questions.

Part two of my interview with Sera Gamble is quite different from the first. I get her response to Jared Padalecki cringing at her scripts, she lets us know just how dedicated Eric Kripke is to the show, and she answers a variety of fan questions about not only the show but her former writing partner, Raelle Tucker, Frenchies, and her latest projects. Just as in part one, she reveals some interesting information.…

I appreciate the interview and the question in regards to Sam. I still feel sad that the writers seem to think that the answer to Sam's character is that he doesn't express himself therefore they don't have to get into how he feels. I sort of get what they're saying, but if they never actually take the time to put the character in a situation where he has to face his issues, then nothing ever comes of the character. Dean's just getting so much focus, he has so many people asking him how he feels and talking to him about his thoughts and his self worth and Sam just doesn't. I guess that's intentional but it's just hard to accept that as a Sam fan I'm suppose to settle for studying Sam in the background (and thank GOODNESS that Jared Padalecki can pull it off with as little as he seems to get in the scripts).

It's also interesting to me how Dean is a character of hope and redemption while Sam's seems to be a character of despair and failure. Dean gets to be redeemed by angels and Sam gets to be condemned with demons. I hope it doesn't turn out that simple, but I wonder why Sam doesn't have some kind of breakdown considering how little good he has in his life?

Anyway, I do appreciate the interview and the voicing of some of our concerns.

Great interview, Alice!! I love Sera's episodes, and her comments and insights were a real treat! And hearing that Sera like's Eric's ending for the show gives me more confidence that it won't be a disappointment.

For Karmyn, re: Twilight: Coming from someone who hasn't seen the movie but did read the first book (at my daughter's insistence), the best explanation I can give you is to say that Edward is OBSESSED with Bella, so I guess that's how Eric feels about SUPERNATURAL.

Now, bring on the brotherly moments, that's what I voted for!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful and supportive comments. I thought it was a thrill to do an interview with Sera back in June, so to not only get another opportunity, but for her to answer a whole slew of questions that I sent her way, I feel very honored. She really does give fantastic answers and I'm thrilled with every one of them.

I VERY much agree that Sera needs to write a Dean sex scene. She got to write both of Sam's and they were great, while Dean's two scenes were pretty disappointing. Maybe direction has something with it too, but if she gave a reference like Monster's Ball to Dean, I'd love to see that!

Sera writes BOTH Sam and Dean very well and gives equal attention to each character. She is one of the few writers on the team that do such great character development. I for one was thrilled that she got the call to show Sam's spiral in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," for I don't think any other writer could have told it better. Ditto for Dean and his faith dilemma in "Are You There God It's Me Dean Winchester."

Thank you Tash for your feedback and thank you Pam for your interpretation of Twilight. Hmmm I can definitely relate to being obsessed with Supernatural!
