Her most embarrassing on set moment was when she had to beat box in an episode. “I don’t rap. I felt like a doofus.”
There's a song called "Dreams Come True" on the CD that Ashley released earlier this year. Ashley told me that the song "really reflects what’s going on right now. My dreams are coming true. That song really means a lot to me. It’s more pop-ish.” She has performed the song at places like the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Like Keke, Ashley thought the question about whether she liked singing or acting better was hard. “I’m a singer first. I started singing when I was two and I started acting when I was five. I can’t really choose. That’s why I like doing plays a lot, because it’s singing and acting at the same time. Singing is always more challenging, but acting isn’t, because I just relate it to something that’s happened to me.”
Ashley did plays, too. She played young Nala when Lion King was on Broadway. “That was a trip. I did it for just about ten months. Our cast was just like it is here, like a big huge family. I loved it. I mean, it was singing and acting.” In addition, she added, “Lion King helped me grow more and I’m more confident.”
Her biological family is “really supportive. My mom is like the best. She drives me everywhere. She’s always so tired. Because not only do I wake up early, she has to wake up early.” Plus, her brother hangs out on set all the time. Her dad always calls her and asks her how everything goes.
Ashley said True Jackson was the “biggest job I’ve ever gotten.” Now, I’ve seen the pilot episode and I was laughing so hard, my sister thought I was crazy. The show premieres November 8 at 9:30 PM on Nickelodeon.
