American Idol: Vonzell Returned to Sender - Page 3

It's not so much that I'm a Skynard fan. It's that birthing thing again. It's that slowly rising giddy feeling that we're going to be there when something big happens. Soon.

Like Vonz and Carrie, Bo's reprisal of his selection from last night, Badlands' "In A Dream," kicked it up a notch. The "hide awaa-aaa-aaay" riffs were even more deliciously low and rumbling than last night and Bo's up riff on "God's graaa-aaa-cce" actually elicited screams of appreciation from the audience. By going for the "my eyes" glory note, and big-time, Bo came out, stood up, and repeated The Statement he made last night:

"Listen up, folks. I. CAN. SING."

Bo has been lauded by Lynard Skynard, a band that he could front tomorrow. (No, today.) He's been praised by the Ides of March, a band that has already asked him to front for them sometime. And, as one of my readers, Aaron, passed on to me, Badlands' guitarist, Jake E. Lee, has basically said Bo could front for them, too.

Lee gushed over Bo on his website and said---on April 20, almost a month ago---that while Ray Gillen (the lead singer for Badlands who is now deceased) is irreplaceable, "Bo Bice could be the next best thing! Man, that dude could KILL on some Badlands tunes!"

As Aaron noted, how's that for seeing the future? Or maybe Bo just reads a lot, I dunno.

Anyway. For Bo, I believe the next invitation is going to come from the American people: will you be our American Idol? Please?

There's much more to ruminate on regarding the finale and what actually might happen when those phone lines open for the last time this season. But that's it for tonight. See you soon.

And a final note to Vonzell: Thank you for the good times. Good luck. You go, girl!

Pancakes next week eh Sticker? Extra syrup, baby!
Vonzell leaving tonight was as predictable as the newspaper on the front porch! I honestly think she knew it too although she really gave her best performances these past two weeks. I'll even go as far as saying she outshined Carrie for a few of them. I got the impression that Carrie was almost prepared to hear that she would be the one packing her bags. Stranger things have happened {flashback to Scott; enough said}.
Bo is an ode to rockers everywhere. He's cut through the past facades of what American Idol has presented America as idol material. Does he even realize that, at this point, he doesn't even need to win the title to be an American idol?

Bo Bice is the genuine article. Carrie is short for karaoke. She's got a good voice, but, it's a tad too shrill and her performances are amateurish compared to Bo, who is a unique entertainer. It will be a travesty if Carrie wins, in my opinion, but, mediocrity often succeeds in show business. For Idol to crown the most mediocre finalist will not bode well for them next season, nor do I predict Carrie will be a great seller. No doubt some label will sign her, regardless, but, Bo will be a guarenteed top seller, and he deserves to win this year. Why is it that Carrie, the most boring, has been promoted above so many others this season? I think she was one of the least impressive all along. The thought of her being crowned will make me think twice about watching season 5.

I thought Vonzell's performance this week was better than Carrie's, but I suppose at this stage in the game you don't vote on performance but who you like. Alas, I think all three of these guys will be getting a deal some where. And they've certainly kick started their careers by being on AI.

Vonzell was likeable and it was easy to be a fan of hers. Not that it is hard to be a fan of Bo's or Carrie's. But her polite aura made you want to like her.

Thank freaking god VONZELL is finally gone.

    We can all rejoice.

Next week's final will be a fair fight between Bo and Carrie. No worries about the race card entering the scene!

OK...Bo seems to have some talent, but unless he does some more mainstream music, I know I for one will not be buying his album. He did a great job on his Elton John song, and in my opinion, he will win the competition hands down if he strays a little from the hard rock image and shows some more versatility. Kelly Clarkson won orginally because she could sing anything well. Bo needs to expand his repetoire as well. As I said, he seems to have talent...let's see him use it.

    leslie--

I think in a week or so you are going to be saying "stack 'em high!"

I think Vonz definitely outperformed Carrie several times in the last weeks, but it was too little too late.

Carrie has a highly entrenched and committed fan base and has from the beginning. They are sticking with her no matter what.

So it could make for a snug finish, but I still think stacks and stacks of pancakes are in our future.

    John--

You tap into the two major raps on Carrie: that she's boring and her performances are amateurish.

Fortunately, I believe she is talented enough that these are things that can be corrected and she will have a great career.

Dear Sticker, nice overall analysis. Nice tone, nice style. You rock (almost as much as Bo).

    ========

Shark's two cents: Baby V was real sweet and likeable, but she couldn't carry a tune in a mail truck filled with flypaper. Her gettin' the big boot was yet another sign that There Is a God. (first sign being the demise of that human turd, Scott 'psycho' Savol.

re. comment#2: "...Why is it that Carrie, the most boring, has been promoted above so many others this season?"

Whatta you, friggin' blind .. or gay?!

    ========

    PS: Shark's Final Answer --

    * Bo will win; (already has)

    * Carrie (who has always been too nervous to get to the top) will be signed and promoted ala Leeann Rimes, ie viringal country bumpkin girl next door --to-- hot, sweaty, cleavage-showin' Nashville Nasty. (I'll skip the CD, but will buy the poster for the back of my bathroom door.)

    * Vonzelle will be in the "where are they now" category in about 15 minutes.

    May 19, 2005 at 9:32 am

Carrie's most appealing attribute is her kinda Okie Virgin version of a bump-and-grind.

That sorta *innocently NASTY move is explicit evidence that she's White, Okie, Baptist, and never had anything near her snatch other than a pair of "My Little Pony" panties.

It's really fun to watch -- and more erotic than someone who's been rode hard, put up wet -- and stayed too long at the fair... as they say in Oklahoma.

*compare to Baby V, who swings that gigantic butt like it has a mind of its own!

PS: I'm not really a pervert lecher -- these observations are of a purely scientific, sociological nature.

    Thanks,
    The Management

hahahaha Shark hit it right on the head in #9....Carrie is erotic...she moves that hot snatch like a Baptist in your face...now if only she could get rid of that walk like she is plowing though cow manure..Carrie can flat out sing and she will be making country videos and will rise to the top in less than a year..Bo can sing also and it will be a close vote..in the end Carrie will win because all those baptist bible babblers only vote one way ..this will be a vote about Country verses Rock and Country will win...but it does not matter because they are both going to be super stars..just wait until the pros get ahold of Carrie and show her how to sell sex...

Boys, can we lay off Carrie and play nice??? Please?? Are you adolescents? Gross!
ANYWAY, Sticker I felt your article today was too short. I wanted more! Of course, I always enjoy your articles so maybe that was the reason I felt short-changed. Never mind.
I'll say it again for everyone. I really like Vonzell. She is lovely to look at and always makes it through her songs BUT she is not inspiring. She is not unique. There are too many who have come before her that are better and will always be. I would love for her to be able to "make it" in the music biz but lets face it. She's got to have that "something" to market herself and she doesn't. Now Bo?? He has that "something". Carrie? Well she is like a beautiful new baby. You love to look at her and watch her. And just like a new baby, the best thing is knowing there's potential there for her to become something special and given time, she will hopefully grow up to be something great. Don't you think??
I really don't care which one of these 2 remaining contestants get to be the coveted AI for 2005. Either way, I think, America wins.
    Peace Out!

    Mir, (not a gross adolescent!)

"...Carrie? Well she is like a beautiful new baby. You love to look at her and watch her."

Yah. And we'd like to 'change her diaper.

Hey, Sticker...you didn't mention Bo's "imaginary friend" this time! :) Ah yes, the boy is magnificent, ain't he? He has given me absolute chills since Day 1 because, you see, until now
I have never been able to get through an entire season of Idol because usually I find it to be horrifyingly the aggrandizement of all that's wrong with the music industry today--shallow, packaged, over-the-top, BORING!

Bo has restored my faith in our society. It was a thrill to see one man move a nation with nothing more than his voice, talent, guts, & soul (not even accompaniment).

    God bless Bo Bice!

Allelujiah (& I'm not even religious)!!!

    mir,

    Thanks and what you said.

Like dinner companions and commencement speakers, I think if a writer errs, it's better to be too short rather than too long in the comment department.

But you did a great job of "adding" to my comments anyway. A splendid analysis, I must say!

i'm hoping that, like many long-haired rockers, bo is bi and hung. at any rate, he is in my dreams when we do a 3-way with carrie.

Carrie can't hold a note, Bo can't sing. Vonzell has it all, she is strong in vocal, holds her notes very well and can't forget she is beautiful. Carrie is she is ugly. Vonzell is a total Lady and should of win, in my eyes you are my American Idol. I wish sometimes I lived in America and have my vote count. You go Lady Vonzell (yes you heard me she should have this in front of her name). I wish I could get your cd, posters etc. Not living in America is my downfall.
