American Idol: Two More Girls Are Sent Packing

Part of: Idol Wired

I don’t think anyone is really shocked by this week’s American Idol double elimination that resulted in Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo being eliminated from the competition this week.

As much as I am disappointed by the elimination of Naima, I wasn’t surprised. I love that she went out on her own terms. She showed who she was as an artist, and I can definitely appreciate that. I love that she brought this wonderful energy to the stage each week. I’m going to miss seeing her on stage, but I definitely look forward to seeing her on tour. AMERICAN IDOL: L-R: Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia are eliminated on AMERICAN IDOL airing Thursday, March 31 (8:00-9:00- PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX. Also pictured: Ryan Seacrest.

With Thia, it was only a matter of time. I would have been shocked if Paul McDonald had been booted instead of her, because he had the better performance of the two. Thia probably should have waited a couple years to try out for Idol. I think she then would had been more at ease with showing more personality. With Naima, we got a sense of who she is as a person and as an artist. I can’t tell you anything about Thia, other than she really likes to sing ballads.

The results show was fairly entertaining again this week. I really liked how they split the Top 11 up into duets and groups this week instead of one big group performance. Jacob Lusk and Naima’s duet of “Solid As a Rock,” was a bit cheesy, but Naima sounded fantastic. James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Stefano Langone, and Paul wielded their instruments for a rendition of “Band on The Run.” The harmonies were a little rough, but they looked like they were having a good time. Haley Reinhart, Pia Toscano, and Thia sang “Teenage Dream.” Haley forgot the words, Thia was basically a glorified back-up singer, and Pia could have rocked the song all on her own. I thought Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery did an amazing job with their duet of “I Told You So.” Their voices together were absolutely flawless. Hopefully they perform together during the tour this summer.

I am a avid fan of American Idol and I was not surprised at the two girls released as America pretty much voted correctly. There is a lot of great talent still to go and I pick Pia Toscano to take it all. Can't wait for the rest of the ride!!

Ryan Seacrest's comment as he told Casey he was safe seemed to indicate that Casey placed first in the voting this week. That's quite a turnabout!

In terms of talent and originality, Stefano should have been eliminated rather than Naima this week. He's coasting by on cuteness and likeability.

To me, it looks like the top 4 will be Casey, Lauren, Pia and Scotty, with Jacob and James as dark horses who could move up with a couple of really strong weekly performances.

Jacob and Pia will be in the finals. The competition is really weak this year again.
