American Idol: The Epilogue, Random Thoughts, Law of Unintended Consequences

We've got us a new American Idol, but that doesn't mean there is nothing left to say. So here's the epilogue: a little peek into my idolhabit crystal ball, some random thoughts, items in the Law of Unintended Consequences column. All that and in no particular order!

The idolhabit crystal ball says that Carrie will have a huge hit with her single, "Inside Your Heaven."

While talking head reaction to the song has been decidedly mixed, it seems to have caught the imagination of the listening public. A very high percentage of the visits to idolhabit over the finale days came from searches that included the terms "Carrie" and "Inside Your Heaven." Not scientific, but good enough for me.

BTW, through the magic of, yes, technology, Carrie's "Inside Your Heaven" has already been delivered to radio stations for immediate play. So, gather 'round, assembled ears.

The idolhabit crystal ball has two words for Bo Bice: Clay Aiken.

The idolhabit crystal ball has two words for Bo Bice fans: Clay Aiken.

"Clay Aiken" is synonymous with the idea that sometimes losing in the short-term is winning in the long-term. Clive Davis already announced for all the world to hear that he intends to offer Bo a recording contract. And there's probably a little more freedom in not having the AI gig to fulfill.

In the Law of Unintended Consequences column under Bo Bice: Clive Davis.

Yes, Mr. Davis has produced superstars---Whitney, Santana et al., but never forget he also produced Justin Guarini and we all know how well that turned out. So don't coast with it, Bo. Take advice, but use your own instincts.

Other Unintended Consequences: Because Simon constantly carped on any woman who dressed up, wore a gown, or went anywhere near glamorous or fabulous---claiming this look was "old" or "old-fashioned" or "not acting your age," this season of American Idol has to be the worst-dressed ever.

Sticker's end-of-season note to my readers here

Hey Sticker - thanks for all of your philosophical, witty, amusing and insightful commentary's this AI season! They've definately added some spice to my otherwise bland days!
Yesterday I figured out why Carrie was voted AI#4 - America was attracted to her innocence, her genuine wholesomeness, her sweet nature which we have to assume is a reflection of her inner and outer beauty and, yeah, the girl's got a great voice. The same reasons Kelly Clarkson won the title. But, as you say, just because Bo is runner up doesn't mean he'll be forgotten tomorrow.
How right you are about this being the worst dressed year!! It should have been called American Grunge Idol! Obviously denim will never be de trop but I guess the contestants hardly realized there were other options! Ya had to love Bo's flip-flops with the suit though. Classic!
So, do you think we'll be hearing a Carrie/Anthony duet on her first album?

    thanks, Leslie.

I did love the flip-flops with the suit! I'm always for surprises, especially in fasion.

There may be Carrie/Anthony duet, but I don't think it will be of the kind on her first cd.

But if they are good friends, it's nice they'll be together on tour this summer before life totally goes wild for Carrie.

They are going to have to beef up security for Bo when AI4 goes on tour. Bo, like Clay Aiken, has a large "cult-like following"....and he is going to have to wear more than shades to go out in public. Carrie is less distinguishable. She will be able to mix into a crowd with shades and a hat...and no one will know....except in that little town of Oklahoma. Carrie and Anthony getting married? Where have I been to miss out on this one.

The Carrie-Anthony thing is mere rumor. They may like each other, but no marriage. Not yet, anyway.

And you're right re: Bo and security. I read in an interview with him in the Birmingham News where he said he has to move out of his house because it has become the new Mecca for AI fans who come and gawk from across the street or ring the doorbell.

Thanks for this wonderful article. I have this strange feeling that except for KELLY C. whom AMERICA really voted as AI SEASON 1 winner, RUBEN, FANTASIA and CARRIE were predicted by SIMON C. as winners really happened. Are they really the winners? or were made winners because whatever SIMON says prevails. American Idol is big business venture and i can't blame them if they have to choose the one who will give them MORE MILLIONS. But you see, SIMON was proven wrong about RUBEN,CLAY sold millions of records even his CHRISTMAS album was PLATINUM.
FANTASIA can hardly climb to the expectation as the winner of SEASON 3. Her voice is getting harsher and harsher now and if not for her technique of the YAH! YAH! YAH yelling and screaming at the end she will not wake up the sleeping viewers.Diana de Garmo has GREAT VOCALS, however, she lack promo from 19E to get to the TOP. I think perhaps because AI doesn't want any RUNNER UP now to be on TOP of the TITLE HOLDER, like what happened to RUBEN and CLAY. I just hope that since the TOP 10 of any SEASON signed a contract with 19E each should be given good TV and RADIO PROMO before making an album so that any AI HOPEFUL will have his/her ROOM of SUCCES in the MUSIC INDUSTRY. AMERICA has a population of nearly 300 million people and AI viewers is increasing every season from 18MILLION SEASON 1 23 million SEASON 2,SEASON 3 was fluctuating from 20 to 23 million and this SEASON is big jump to 27 to 34 MILLION and with 500 MILLION votes casted for the whole SEASON it's a good indication for the SHOW to grow even more. Problems and SCANDALS will always be there but they are challenges that even attract more viewers. Honestly, American IDOL is already part of our daily lives from JAN to MAY. I MISS THE SHOW! Regarding ANTHONY whom I strongly supported this season, I think he just treats CARRIE as a BIG SISTER because he has no one except for a BIG BROTHER. Definitely, he will not ride on to CARRIE's TITLE.What i love in this SEASON is everyone supports each other. Well, every SEASON has his BEST POINTS and i just hope that the AI JUDGES will stop saying this is the BEST EVER because that will be demeaning to the PREVIOUS SEASONS after all they were the ones who decided to help the HOPEFULS to SUCCEED! THEIR SUCCESS IS THEIRS TOO!
    THANKS! EVE, NJ
