"No more crying cowboys or Brittenum twins."
Now, to be honest, the crying cowboys weren't such a huge problem for me. But, those Brittenum twins? Yes, they can sing. In terms of being obnoxious, they had that in the bag, too. May they never appear on national television again. Never.
Onto the show! The 12 girls each sing one song of their choosing this evening. After the show, the voting will be open for two hours. Voting should be for the singer you like, not the one you hate. On Thursday night, two girls will be sent packing. Tomorrow night, it's the guys. Two of them will go home Thursday, too.
There. I got that out of the way. I felt obligated to write it just in case there's anyone in the world who may not know.
First up was Mandisa, someone I'm really enjoying so far this season. I don't think the outfit she wore did much for her (a tight red silk camisole style top, thankfully mostly covered), but her performance was pure Mandisa. She sang "Never" by Heart to "prove sistahs can rock!" Did she carry it off? I think so. What? You don't care what I think? You want the reaction of the judges? Sigh. They agreed with me. Simon said it wasn't perfect, but he's sure we'll be seeing her through the finals.
Then it was Kellie Pickler. I don't know if I can take a whole season of sobbing about how life "done did do her wrong." Her vocal style isn't really my cuppa tea. Combine that with the tears and never-ending tale of woe? She can go! Her song choice was "How Far" by Martina McBride. The judges were impressed. What is going on with that? It's like they're focusing solely on her sob story background and unassuming personality rather than performance. Hey, judges, let's not set a precedent.
Becky O'Donohue took the stage singing "Because the Night" by Patti Smith - a good song choice as far as I'm concerned. She chose it because it's the first CD she ever owned. I can't remember the first CD I ever owned. I could tell you the first album in vinyl, but you'd think I was ancient. She sang the song okay and she's a very pretty girl. She's got this odd wrinkling of the brow and nose going on whenever the camera zooms in, apparently in an attempt to be sultry and sexy. Okaaay ... it doesn't do anything for me. Randy loves it; the other two were a bit more judicial. Me? I just wasn't thrilled.

OOPs, I meant Katharine McPhee

Chad -- I think Katharine really rocked last night, too. I liked her okay before last night's show, but she really was impressive in her solo. Although I'm putting Lisa right up there with her, I'm sure she's clinching the Final 6 Girls. Thanks for the site link -- I'll check it out!

The girls are really strong this year. I don't any of the guys even coming close to touching the talent that's in the girls this year.

Greasy Guide -- I don't know... some of the guys are getting a good Internet buzz. Ace has a very polished professional feel to his performances and I'm very interested to see where Taylor Hicks is going to go with his stuff. I'll be posting entries here and on my own blog (see URL) after the guys sing tonight. I could revert to my childhood and root for the Peter Brady lookin' Will Makar, but I won't.

Paris and Katharine are the two I've been watching out for since the auditions. I am glad to see they're doing so well. Lisa is good too, but something about her just doesn't excite me like Paris does.
If I picked who leaves for the gals? Brenna and Becky.

I can't argue with that, -E. My fear is that votes might keep Brenna on. Eep!

I disagree on Paris and Lisa. I liked Paris' performance more than Lisa but you were right on target with the rest.
