Oh come now. It's our modern equivalent of bread and circuses.

Wow. The doc noms were way lib, eh, Dave? How can you write about it? It's like Rush Limbaugh at a Rage Against the Machine show.

It would be a hell of a gesture if some of the proceeds from the networks and the celebs were donated to, say, distressed homeowners or some other segment of those who are hurting.

The credibility of the entire event would have skyrocketed as a result.

Of course, nothing of the kind would ever occur to our movers and shakers.

Well, the show is over, folks.

Sandra Bullock's speech was most moving.

Way to go, Sandra. Well deserved.

All foreign films looked like worth seeing.

Does this mean people are going to rush out and see The Hurt Locker? No, it's already out of theaters. Are they going to rent or buy it? No. I rented it and could only watch like half of it. It was so much about war and blood and guts. If that was the case then I would rather Precious won.

People, run out and see Avatar. You won't regret that.

Money to poor people. I don't think so. Avatar was robbed is all I can say.

Sorry your prediction didn't come true. But it's still patriotic times, and the Academy responded.

    You mean "the poor people"?

    Sorry, Dave.

Couldn't participate in the live blog. Don't have cable so I had to watch it on the computer screen.

"The credibility of the entire event..."

What are you talking about? It's an awards show not a telethon.

Hurt Locker is still in theaters and will no doubt be in more by next weekend. It took seconds to learn that through the movie's website. Avatar was not robbed.

    "Avatar was robbed."

How do you figure? A huge movie makes bucketloads of cash at the box office and is soundly and rightly defeated by a small, thoughtful film about the nature of war. I'm not seeing any "robbery" here at all. The better film won. Period.

I suppose it is an award show.
So what has this got to do with anything?
