Usually, I rant. Sometime I rave, but often I rant. Today it’s a little bit of each.
Have you seen this report from Zap2it? WHAT?! Really!? O.J.’s actually going to do this? He’s truly going to sit down in front of TV cameras and say something along the lines of:
To be clear, I did not commit any murders. I didn’t particularly like Ron or my ex-wife, but I didn’t kill them. I did almost go to jail for it however, but I didn’t kill them. You see, the prosecutors made some huge mistakes. They presented a hypothetical series of events that was completely impossible. You see, even though I didn’t do it, let me just remind of you that right now, I know exactly how it could have happened if I had done it. If I had done it, and I didn’t do it by the way, I would have done it like this…
As stated in the article, this special is timed to coincide with his upcoming book, If I Did It. And let me just again say — really? This is how you’ve chosen to stay in the limelight, by thumbing your nose at the police, prosecutors, and families of the victims? I have to wonder if some of the money O.J. makes from the book, and presumably for sitting down for the interview, will be given to the Goldmans as part of the settlement from the civil suit. Is this whole thing one big joke on O.J.’s part? Is this some sort of of irony he is exhibiting? Is the whole thing just in incredibly bad taste?
Strike that last question, it’s obviously in incredibly bad taste. But, on the other hand — and this has to be said — the interview could very well make for great television. I mean, it could be absolutely wonderful, stand up and cheer, train-wreck television. If O.J. doesn’t mince words, looks into the camera and explains, purely hypothetically of course, why the glove didn’t fit and then winks into the camera — that’s great television.

It is too ridiculous not to be true. Everyone's jaw dropped at this news item, I'm sure. It sounds like a bad sketch idea for Mad TV. What a crazy and despicable person...I'm referring to Judith Regan the book's publisher, who conducted the interviews also.
And don't overlook this bit:
"But when he’s asked to read aloud a chapter from the book titled 'The Night in Question,' which chronicles a hypothetical re-creation of the murder, he breaks into tears. 'I can’t do this,' he says. 'I can’t have my kids hear me say this.' Says the insider, 'He sounds like he’s confessing.'"

The whole thing is moderately surreal. But I think that's what makes it have the potential to be great TV.

I think it'll get huge ratings, but as I almost wrote in my House review last night, squeamish as I am, none of the blood and guts on that medical show could ever make me even a tiny fraction as sick to my stomach as the commercials they were airing for the OJ interview. I decided against keeping that in, since I didn't want to give it even more publicity than it's getting. And it's getting all that publicity because you're right - it's the kind of TV people love. Just not me.

What I find most despicable in this whole enterprise is the fact that one of the murder victims is, of course, the mother of the children he allegedly weeps over. If he had any shred of decency left in him, he never would have undertaken such a project.

I'm with Diane on this - not all the blood and gore on TV compares with a man going on national TV and rubbing his acquittal not just in the face of victims' families but that of his own children. Won't buy the book, won't watch the interview. Might throw up.

I still say, good bad, or ugly, whether it makes you happy or upset, it's going to generate a great deal of publicity and will get good ratings. It's one of those things that I believe people will watch behind closed doors and will never admit having seen, but will magically have a huge Nielsen number.

well Fox pioneered that sort of TV so I guess you're right. it would be kinda great though if, for once, everybody just stayed away. not going to happen but i'm entitled to my fantasies.

I think fantasies are one of the reasons the show will do well. People believe he truly is going to wink at the camera when he says he didn't do it.

There are literally tens of millions of Americans who still believe that OJ was completely innocent of this double-homicide. And they are the people I would like to have watch this interview...
