Welcome to part II of the journey of my short film. I may have jumped ahead with the story in part I, I should have started with a concept. Well, you know how it is when inspiration strikes. So, I had to backtrack a bit and boil that story down to the concept. Read on, if you will, and see what I turned in.
The Concept:
The Realm

This is a story about Mike Harris; he wants to find the woman of his life. He wants to achieve this goal because he has been alone for most of his life and feels his time is running out. The nemesis is a spectral entity who has had a hand in his life for a long time. He wishes to stop the hero because he believes that he has a vested interest in the outcome of the hero’s life; it’s more of a help/hurt relationship for the unknown agenda of the entity.
This story focuses on a specific event in Mike’s life. It is the point where he meets the “love interest” of the larger story. The story starts after some devastating event in Mike’s life. He ends up in a bar depressed, hurt, and confused, not really sure of where to turn next, then she enters. This Gina enters the bar and approaches the counter, Mike can’t help but see her.
The entity, as he has done so many times in the past, transports Mike to another realm. The only problem is that each time this happens, it’s different. It’s as if the entity wishes to test our hero at each step of the journey. This time, Mike is not alone. But, in his current state, he has trouble figuring out what is going on. She is there as well, but the opposite is occurring. She was in an upbeat mood and, although she doesn’t know why, she is comfortable and at peace.
This story teaches our hero that, at times, you must rely on others as a way to pull yourself through whatever may be happening to you.
I know, reading it now makes it seem rather weak. At the time, however, I thought it was gold. Keep an eye out for part III, which will include scene outlines.
