A-Depp-t

Is there a rule that Johnny Depp has to be in every other movie that comes out? In an effort to take advantage of the wild success of Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp's next movie is being released early:

The Johnny Depp thriller "Secret Window" is opening six weeks earlier than originally planned, a move that could help the film take advantage of the heat surrounding the actor.

The Sony film, based on a novella by Stephen King, will now come out on March 12 instead of April 23. The announcement was made Wednesday by Jeff Blake, the studio's president of worldwide marketing and distribution.

"We just had our first screening of the film, and it went great; Johnny Depp is terrific in this film," said Blake, who noted that the media campaign for the film kicks off Feb. 1 with a spot during Super Bowl XXXVIII.

Depp plays a writer who is in the midst of a painful divorce and is stalked by a psychotic stranger. John Turturro, Ving Rhames and Timothy Hutton also star. "Window" has not yet been rated, but Blake said he anticipates a PG-13 tag. David Koepp directed. [Hollywood Reporter]

What I want to know is, whatever happened to the other guy from 21 Jump Street? Who would have predicted the career of Johnny Depp from those humble beginnings?

Who *was* the other guy in 21 Jump Street? Was he a Deluise?

On a related topic: the novella by King on which this movie is based is really fantastic. It's in "Four Past Midnight," and it really stuck with me, even though I've only actually read it once.

Johnny Depp is the Bomb! I remember him when he started at 21JumpStreet and dismissed him. But since the Pirate Movie came out I see him in a different light. Rented Once Upon a Time in Mexico the other day, and can't wait to see him in a new movie. Hollywood is just captalizing on his new found fans...

Other Z, there were a few in between. I remember thinking idfferently after Edward Scissorhands, which I didn't really like that much, but he was pretty amazing, and after Gilbert Grape. He's a great actor.

One indication that Depp is more than a pretty face, and a real actor is the range of his roles in biopics:
    - Ed Wood in "Ed Wood"
    - Joe Pistone in "Donny Brasco"
    - Raoul Duke (Hunter S. Thompson) in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"

Plus his wife is Vanessa Paradis, mmmmmmm.

The other guy was Richard Grieco - what ever happened to that guy? Guess he was just a pretty face.

For six degrees of Depp-eration, here's the Internet Movie Database's 21 Jump Street page. You can track all of the Jumpsters' careers!

Damn, it looks like Richard has kept busy, but I've never even heard of a single one of these projects - were they direct-to-video on the moon?

While, Depp annoyed me this year, I still count him as a great actor. I knew Depp was great when I saw Gilbert Grape.

His ability to do different types of roles is pretty cool. For example, Benny and Joon would have been an awful movie with anyone but Johnny Depp in that role I think. He had a mischievous vulnerability that I don't think many actors could have pulled off.

Even with this, I have to say that I didn't think his character in Pirates was very good. I thought Depp did fine with the material, but the lack of focus of the character was distracting. Is he a great pirate? Is he a misfit? Is he a serious guy? Is he a joker? Can he be trusted? Anyway, I guess you could say it was a complex character, but I found it unbelievable and thought it just a lack of focus by a writer.

The darkest and first moment for Depp fans was in Nightmare on Elm Street. He dies in a geyser of blood!!!

However, if you want a real geyser of blood you need to go with Bruce Campbell in "Army of Darkness".

Now, Depp and Campbell -- that would be a movie. Let's get Bruce in Pirates II.

Why doesn't anyone ever mention his role
in "Cry Baby"??? Next to his roles in
"Ed Wood" and "Dead Man" this may be his
favorite role of mine. Plus the teenybop
set can go wild as he runs around in his
BVD's only. John waters must've loved this!!! LOL

Hi, his name was Peter Deluise, and he directs the original Stargate with our friend McGiever. Don't know what else he has done.

    Cheers GoldBear
