Hey all,
I am taking a break from my usual music leanings to write a quick piece about Sandler's latest - '50 First Dates'. I have to say I thought it was great! That being said, know this > First off, the whole story is basically a rip off of Bill Murray's Groundhog Day. Second, it is a chick flick. Third, Sandler plays the exact same character he has played in every single movie he has ever done.
So, being a fan of old school Sandler I Netflixed the movie, expecting a weak ass formulaic lame flick. Know what? It was all of those things... and it was great! I couldn't have had a better couple of hours to kill on a Thursday night than watching that film. So, if you dig Sandler at all... or have a girlfriend... this is a good investment.
*btw - the one I got was 'widescreen edition'. Lemme tell you what you watch in Widescreen - Lord of the Rings, or Kill Bill. As for Sandler, I am not to concerned about the integrity of the cinematographer's vision. Just gimme the full screen so I can see Drew Barrymore better.

Lono, I liked it quite a bit too, though as you mention its ancestry is quite obvious. He really seems to bring out the best in Drew, who has rarely been more appealing than in this and the Wedding Singer.
