24 – Hour Ten: CTU - You're Fired! - Page 3

Edgar picks up chatter that came through his filters. Interesting. My filters pick up lint, or clumps of hair. Gotta get me one of those CTU filters. So Edgar, Audrey and Chloe all figure out through this chatter that the Russian motorcade is going to be attacked. Soon. Of course, they naturally inform Samwise. Of course, Samwise naturally tells them to bugger off. Poor Sam. See what happens when he’s cut off from his supply of lembas bread? He’s a frickin maniac! One by one the cadre of Jacks’ support staff go up to Sam/Lynn’s office and plead their case for following up on the chatter. One by one Sam pushes them back down the stairs. “No more chatter about chatter! Be gone with you!”

Audrey is feeling quite pissy now, and brings in Curtis to the enclave. She wants him to pull rank on Sam, and stop the madness now. Curt feels her pain, but is loathe (I’ve always wanted to use that phrase) to take this approach at the moment.

Prez Logan is sitting looking a scrapbook – oops, rather a book of photos of Martha. Mike joins him for some more hand wringing. Poor Prez is getting so worked up, but still, he manages to rationalize quite nicely. “Damn you Martha…you brought this on yourself”. So, what else can a man do when he’s sold out not only the ruler of a nation whose relationship with the US has been tenuous at best, but in doing so has also signed his own wife’s death warrant? Why get down on your knees and pray boy. Pray hard. Pray VERY hard. Prez asks Mike to join him – Mike would rather not get all touchy feely at this time, - but Prez begs him. “Pray with me!”

While Prez and Mike are getting religion, Edgar is hard at work shining up his protocols. All of a sudden, here comes Samwise with Red Shirts Merry and Pippin. He doesn’t like the look of Edgar’s protocols, nor the fact that Edgar has tried to hack into his computer and forge some things. Audrey tried to intervene, Samwise: “Shut up”. Wow. And I used to like him. He then tells Curtis that Edgar and Chloe should both be put in custody, and Audrey should be booted out of CTU. (Again with the “You’re Fired”) Curtis basically tells Sam and the hobbits to chill. Sam is so cracking here, he orders Merry to shoot Curtis, just for mouthing off to him. There’s a brief tense moment. OK a couple tense moments. Finally Merry defers to Curtis the Wise and Powerful. Curtis orders Samwise to be sent to Shelob’s Cave – and oh and is he starting to fall apart. “You can’t do this, he can’t do this – don’t touch me!” Whew!

Love these reviews, Mary K. While I find this season more satisfying than last year, there are some interesting parallels.

    1. Last year, Erin Driscoll (in charge of CTU for a short time) short-circuited due to her personal life and was pulled from command. This year, the same has happened to our friend Lynn.

    2. The thing with the bomb happened last year too, and Jack survived. He's a whiz at survival.

    3. There's always an "old friend" whom Jack once knew who turns bad (Stephen Saunders, Nina Meyers, Robocrap, etc.)

I am enjoying this season immensely and am waiting for Jack's first encounter with Snakehead. It should go the same way as last year's with Marwan. Jack will be imprisoned and escape and then later meet up with Snakehead and point a gun at him. As Jack said to Marwan last year, "I've been waiting for this."

    Aren't we all?

Heehee. My favorites this week: Jack's resume (read semi-automatic); Ominous-Cron; Prez and Mike getting religion; the Scooby-Doo clan...

Like I said before, it helps to laugh...

I think 24 has some great guest stints (usually the guy gets killed in a couple of episodes though). I just realized (after watching episodes that I've recorded this season again) that the Nathanson guy was from a great show I used to watch on late night TV years ago: Forever Night. He played a reluctant vampire.

    Anyone remember that?

No, I do not remember that one - but I have another one like that.

Late Tuesday afternoon, I was playing back throuh the tape of monday nights 24 ep. and while I was rewinding and fast forwarding - the channel I had on was showing an old ER episode. Guess who was playing "The Burn Doctor" - Our favorite Prez - Charles "Shakes/Nixon" Logan. (Gregory Itzen)
