The results are in and some of them are not all that pretty. There were a few that I was very happy to see win, while others made me yell at my television screen. I know that does not accomplish much and in the big picture awards shows like these do not mean much. However, I do still enjoy seeing personal favorites take home big prizes, it sort of validates my own feelings. Not that I need to be validated, but it does make me smile, if only a little.
So, without further adieu, let's take a look at some clips of the winners with minimal notes from yours truly. I will not be covering all of the winners, but most will be here. I left off much of the television coverage because for as much television as I watch, the majority of those nominated I do not watch (usually because I do not have the premium nets on which they air).
Before moving on to all of the awards, here is a compilation of what were deemed the best moments by someone:
Steven Spielberg won the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award and relates a wonderful story.
Best Motion Picture - Drama - Slumdog Millionaire
Notes: It is a great movie that is not topping my list, but comes pretty darn close. It is a movie that made me smile and it makes me happy to see it doing well.
Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Notes: This one had me saying "Noooooo!" Darth Vader style. Not that it is a bad movie, but it is not all that good. My pick was In Bruges. I was also amused by how the producer almost forgot to thank Woody Allen, I mean without him this movie would not even exist.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama - Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler
Notes: I have not even seen the movie yet and I was cheering this victory. I think Rourke was snubbed for his performance in Sin City, and I have heard nothing but great things for his work here. On top of that, he gave one heck of an entertaining acceptance speech.
