2008 Waterfront Screenplay Competition

The 2008 Waterfront Screenplay Competition will take place during this year's annual Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan June 12-15. The competition will accept original screenplays for review, and is open to all professional and non-professional screenwriters, including members of the Writers Guild of America. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2008.

The lucky grand prize winner will receive a VIP all-access pass and lodging for the 2008 film festival. In addition, a party will be hosted by the Writers Guild of America in the winner's honor — an exclusive chance to meet and mingle with industry guests. The winner will also receive a $250 cash prize, and perhaps most importantly, will have the opportunity to meet with a literary agent or manager during the festival.

Screenplays will be judged on merit and production criteria by a panel of industry professionals. The screenplay committee will be looking for originality, a unique voice, and a well-crafted story. Tic Tock Studios executive Rebecca Green will read the winning script and meet with the writer during the upcoming summer festival.

For consideration, screenplays must be:

  • Full-length scripts for original feature films.
  • The original work of the author and not previously purchased or produced.
  • At least 85 and no more than 125 pages in length, typed in standard industry format and submitted in English.

For complete guidelines and an entry form, visit the Waterfront Film Festival website.

The Waterfront Film Festival is in its tenth year and has already become a site that regularly hosts Midwest premieres of Academy Award-winning and nominated documentaries. The mission of the Waterfront Film Festival is commitment to education in the film industry. Seminars are designed to encourage the next generation of actors, writers and directors.

It was announced in the Winter 2007 issue of the Screen Actor's Guild Magazine that SAGIndie recognized the Waterfront Film Festival as one of its top five film festivals. This placed WFF in excellent company with Cannes, Sundance, CineVegas, and SXSW.

Waterfront is open to everyone, regardless of where they were born or currently reside.

Thank you for the link and information. I didn't see any screenplay contests at that site, but there were some other writing contests listed. I'll try to keep an eye on it for future information.
