Oh, _that-s_ where those weapons of mass destruction were! I love how the neo-cons who flog Isreal as the only democracy in the Middle East have studiously ignored them acting, well, just like the Soviet Union with gulags and everything.

Vanunu was kidnapped in 1986 by Israeli agents in Rome, after he revealed to the world evidence of Israel’s secret nuclear weapons program.

A technician at the Dimona nuclear reactor in the Negev desert for nine years, Vanunu came to oppose Israel’s weapons program. In 1986 he gave pictures from Dimona and an interview to London’s Sunday Times that exposed the extent of Israel’s nuclear arms arsenal.

He was sentenced to 18 years jail for treason.

Vanunu has always maintained that he had only confirmed what the world already knew.

So you got your good nuclear friends Pakistan who sell to North Korea, and your good nuclear friends who sold to South Africa (back before they became a regieme which became somewhat unpredictable). Geez, we can’t find these nuckular weapons anywhere.

About Jim Carruthers

  • http://www.gwbush.blogspot.com RJ Elliott

    JC:

He released photos of a top-secret military site to foreign media. What do you think would happen to, say, an American, or even a Canadian, who did this? Wouldn’t they wind up in a cell, as well?

  • Sandra Smallson

Vanunu is a loud mouth traitor but were he Jewish he would have been treated better. Especiallu during inside interrogations..he might not have even been kept that long in Prison. Oh well!

  • Nick Jones

    “…were he Jewish…”
He is, isn’t he? Or did I miss something?

  • Sandra Smallson

    He’s Christian.

  • mike

He’s a Jew who converted to Christianity.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Never mind what religion he adheres to, that is beside the point, what the point it that a state was engaging in international crime, the proliferation of nuclear weapons in secret.

So for this, he spent more than a decade in solitary, and continues to be a prisoner after being kidnapped.

So, in other words, nuclear terrorism is rewarded as long as it a state which meets the approval of the rulers.

I think anybody who exposes nuclear terrorism should be praised.

  • Sandra Smallson

Mike, therefore, he WAS a Jew and IS now a Christian like I stated. Jim, the man betrayed his country. It’s as simple as that. The rights and wrongs of what he revealed can be argued till Kingdom come. It does not change the fact that he betrayed his country and played self righteousness with the National security of Israel.

  • mike

In this case, betraying his country was the honorable thing to do. Three cheers for him. I wish I had the courage to do something like that.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Jim, the man betrayed his country. It’s as simple as that.

He provided evidence the state was engaged in an international crime, it’s as simple as that. So he should have been a good german?

Daniel Ellsberg revealed that the Nixon administration was engaged in war crimes in the secret bombing of Cambodia which lead to the rise of the Khymer Rouge who murdered over 2 million people. The development and proliferation of nuclear weapons is a crime. Isreal aided the former government of South Africa in their own nuclear weapons programme.

Being a citizen of a nation doesn’t mean that you are obligated to aid and abet the state in crimes.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Jim, the man betrayed his country. It’s as simple as that.

While I think about it, you’re right, that traitorous rat-bastard Nelson Mandela, they should have just taken him out and shot him.

And let all ‘murricans give praise to General Benidict Arnold who honoured his sworn oath of loyalty to the King and honorably served his commission, unlike some other treasonist scum.

  • brian

‘While I think about it, you’re right, that traitorous rat-bastard Nelson Mandela, they should have just taken him out and shot him.’
    ….

i assume youre being ironic, when you write this way about Mandela

  • Nick Jones

And whatever happened to that white bloodbath that conservatives said we’d be responsible for if Mandela and the ANC took over? Must be a great disappointment for them….

  • Sandra Smallson

Can you explain to me the similarities b/w Vanunu and Mandela? Mr Carruthers. Please, enlighten me on the similarities b/w what both stood for or were fighting for.

  • http://scottpepper.blogspot.com Scott Pepper

I think anybody who exposes nuclear terrorism should be praised.

To paint Vanunu as anti-nuclear is flat-out wrong. In 1981, he protested with Arab activists against the destruction of Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor. He doesn’t disapprove of nuclear weapons, only nuclear weapons in Israeli hands.

Also, I’m not sure where you see “terrorism” here.

  • mike

Both Vanunu and Mandela have fought against apartheid and ethnic cleansing. Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians is the exact moral equivalent of Afrikaner treatment of blacks. Nuclear weapons are part of that strategy.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Sandra, I can’t explain something you are not prepared to listen to. Both men were imprisoned for “crimes” by repressive states which masked themselves as democracies.

And Scott, as for Iraq nuclear facilities, don’t you think it isn’t a good idea to drop bombs on a suspected nuclear facility?

Essentially, the development and proliferation of nuclear weapons is evil and a crime against humanity no matter who does it.

States which develop and spread nuclear weapons are terrorists. It’s not like you’ve got to determine if you’ve got “good” or “bad” cancer.

  • http://scottpepper.blogspot.com Scott Pepper

States which develop and spread nuclear weapons are terrorists.

I’m not familiar with this definition of terrorism.

Developing nuclear weapons is one thing, using them is another (neither is good, but surely you have to agree that the later is worse!) By your logic, the manufacturer of a gun or rifle is a murderer because it can potential be used to kill a person.

  • http://www.bhwblog.com bhw

The gun manufacturer analogy doesn’t work because guns can just be used for target practice, hunting, etc. and not for murdering people or other criminal use.

What use do nuclear weapons have except to kill? And to kill many all at once?

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Great, I have a choice between “bad” and “worse” crimes against humanity. Thank you very much Mr. ‘murrican psychopath.

It’s just wrong, it is pure evil. Unlike many other state policies, there are no shades of grey, if you are developing nuclear weapons, you are doing evil. Full stop.

If you can’t understand that, then there is no hope for you. You are a psychopath.

  • Sandra Smallson

Jim, I guessed that would be yourt similarity and it is a weak one. I stand by my earlier posts. You stand by yours.

Mike, comparing Vanunu to Mandela is ridiculous. I am not even interested in dragging out a debate on that basis. Utter nonsense!

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

I’m not familiar with thisdefinition of terrorism.

That’s probably because you haven’t seen the show in Branson, the one with the marquee “You Might Be A Moron If …”

What part of a weapon which not only destroys a large area, but also pollutes it with radioactive fallout which is lethal for thousands of years not a definition of terror?

Any State which engages in the development, creation or maintaining of nuclear weapons is a terrorist state, since the only reason to have these weapons is to create terror.

If you can’t understand that, you are a full on idiot or psychopath.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Sandra, you forgot to take your ball.

And that Huff-mobile is looking shabby, it really needs some Shinola. (but don’t be taken by fakes).

  • Nick Jones

Nuclear fallout – the gift that keeps on giving.

  • http://scottpepper.blogspot.com Scott Pepper

Any State which engages in the development, creation or maintaining of nuclear weapons is a terrorist state, since the only reason to have these weapons is to create terror.

So you’re saying that not only Israel and the U.S., but Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, and North Korea are all “terrorist” States?

  • http://scottpepper.blogspot.com Scott Pepper

What use do nuclear weapons have except to kill?

    Deterrence.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

So you’re saying that not only Israel and the U.S., but Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, and North Korea are all “terrorist” States?

I’ll use three letters so you can understand since you can’t see my lips moving:

    YES

  • http://scottpepper.blogspot.com Scott Pepper

    Jim-

Thanks for all the personal attacks. They make your argument so much more convincing.

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Soctt: – Thanks for all the personal attacks. They make your argument so much more convincing.

Scott, which of the three letters did you not understand. Perhaps I can help or refer you to a literacy programme.

Nuclear weapons are international state terrorism. You haven’t said anything which refutes that assertion.

So you’re either a moron or pschopath. Which is it?

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Of course everybody knows a “pschopath” is an unhappy young man with bad skin like a pizza.

  • Shark

If nukes are outlawed, only outlaws will have nukes.

    ~Doh!

  • Nick Jones

“What use do nuclear weapons have except to kill?

    Deterrence.”

And why d’ye think everybody wants ‘em? That way, when some big power goes up to a little country and says, “Suck my dick!”, the little country can say, “No, YOU suck MY dick!”

  • http://www.resonation.ca Jim Carruthers

Ah, geez, I ask you out for an evening, and all you want to do is go to a gay bar.

  • http://www.gwbush.blogspot.com RJ Elliott

South Africa is now the biggest cesspool in the world. Check out their crime stats. Check out their AIDs rates. Their leader is a madman.

I wouldn’t move there. Would you?

I’d rather live in Kenya. Or just about anywhere else…

  • http://www.gwbush.blogspot.com RJ Elliott

“What use do nuclear weapons have except to kill? And to kill many all at once?”

    Uh, deterrance?

  • http://www.gwbush.blogspot.com RJ Elliott

“Any State which engages in the development, creation or maintaining of nuclear weapons is a terrorist state, since the only reason to have these weapons is to create terror.

If you can’t understand that, you are a full on idiot or psychopath.”

The US, UK, France, Israel, India, Russia, Red China, and Pakistan all have nukes. Are all these countries “terrorist states”?

  • Sandra Smallson

RJ, do you happen to live in America? This aids free, crime free, terrorist free Country..with a very “sane” leader?..LOL..LOL..No, truly, tell me you are a stand up comedian…only a comedian could have come up with that comment of yours on South Africa and be an inhabitant of the United States of America. Hilarious! Freaking Hilarious!

The South Africans DO NOT want to move to America either. I don’t know too many people who want to move to America these days.

If you check your tourist board and theirs you will find that they love to live in their country and they visit you as regularly as they visit Namibia and Kenya. You guys visit them and LIVE there..seemingly unable to find your way back home.
