For fans waiting on pins and needles for season two of Lie To Me, it looks like Monday, September 21 may be the date to circle on the calendar as is being reported by the Futon Critic in breaking news. In the fall, Lie To Me will air at 9 pm ET on Mondays after House, which I think is very clever scheduling. The two shows both feature unorthodox and beautifully acted lead characters who use clues others don’t notice to solve cases. I think they’ll appeal to a similar audience, much as Bones and House did when they were scheduled back to back.
FOX’s strategy last season was to leverage its strengths in hits like House and American Idol to seed new hits, and the network was not disappointed in the results. Fringe was the number one new show in the desirable 18-49 demographic, while Lie To Me was number three. FOX President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly told the media, “We’re going to protect our new hits Fringe and Lie To Me by pairing them strategically to ensure they continue to grow.”
The Futon Critic also noted FOX has pushed the date of Lie To Me repeats of the first season from June 1 to June 15, and the repeats will be uninterrupted save for August 10 with the Teen Choice awards. Hopefully, Lie To Me will pick up even more fans over the summer, ready to follow the Lightman Group in season two.
The network has brought Shawn Ryan of The Shield on board as showrunner, and it will be interesting to see what effect that has on the feel of the show. According to Tim Roth, Ryan was involved with “Blinded,” a episode that had a little different structure from the usual fare. Roth also offered a few hints on what to look forward to in the story: “I think what the next season will bring is a little bit of the background on where he comes from. We had plotted various ideas and hopefully they’ll come about, why he does what he does, the history of that. He also had, I think, a certain falling out with government agencies and so forth that will come about and it should be kind of interesting, I think.”
When you add in the unresolved issues surrounding Cal’s relationships with ex-wife Zoe and his soon to be divorced partner Gillian, next season looks terrific!Powered by Sidelines
