HBO has released a new trailer for the forthcoming season two of its award-winning anthology series True Detective.
The first season left viewers breathless with its strange and intense tale of two police detectives (Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. This season, which debuts Sunday, June 21 features Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch.
This season teams three cops to solve a bizarre (This is True Detective, after all!) murder in California after Ani Bezzerides (McAdams), a rebellious Ventura County detective and California Highway Patrol motorcycle cop Paul Woodrugh (Kitsch) discover a crime scene. Farrell plays Ray Velcro, a “compromised” detective in Vinci, an industrial city in Los Angeles County. Vaughn is Frank Semyon, a criminally minded entrepreneur who’s on the brink of losing it all. All are involved in the investigation, which ultimately involves three law enforcement agencies, criminal organizations and billions of dollars.
True Detective‘s last season was characterized by brilliant–often lyrical–writing, a moody, often surreal, atmosphere, and wonderful performances. Creator/writer Nic Pizzolatto is certain to have more of the same for the new season with a different story and a new cast.
