I hate competition among artists. I just don’t see how anything as subjective as creative expression can be ranked in any meaningful way. What I enjoy may not match your taste, and just because you love something doesn’t mean anyone else will.
That is one reason why I laugh at any “Top Ten” lists that seem to multiply at this time of the year. I don’t know which ten films, books or CD’s I have enjoyed the most in 2002. I certainly can’t say any one was better than all the rest, and even if I did, what relevance could that possibly have for you?
Instead of a “Top Ten” list, I will simply list the last ten CD’s that I have purchased. I don’t think it tells you very much about my taste in music, as most of what I bought was determined by what has been released in the last couple of months. This time of year always brings out the higher profile artists, as well as “Greatest Hits” collections to cash in on the Christmas shopping season.
So, for what it is worth, here are the last ten music Cd’s I have purchased, in no particular order:
Under Construction – Missy Elliot
Greatest Hits – Bjork
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot – Wilco
Nellyville – Nelly
Room for Squares – John Mayer
By The Way – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Highly Evolved – The Vines
Stripped – Christina Aguilera
Nirvana – Nirvana
