It's all over, folks! No need to track the #izzowatch anymore. He's staying with the Spartans.
The official statement was released to the masses, citing that not only is he staying, but he'll be here "for life." Really? Just life? That leaves his entire existence as an undead coach out in the open.
To paraphrase, this was the one job that Izzo has seriously considered in the handful of "better" openings, and he wanted to explore the opportunity as best he could. For the whole process to take a week may've upset the Spartans community, but it was the only way and the right way.
The fun money quote from Izzo: "Just as I decided to stay home, I hope a 6-8, 270-pound forward in Cleveland decides to stay home.
Oh, but there was also this: "I want to do whatever I can to make our entire athletic department and university better. Most important is helping Mark Dantonio and his football team attain its goal of winning a Big Ten Championship and playing in the Rose Bowl." You guys! He's gonna be the football coach after all!
And so ends the speculation, straight from the coach's mouth. No doubt there will be a ton of backpedaling from the Michigan sports media, which has been surprisingly critical of the man. Take the Detroit News' Lynn Henning. He said that it's too late for Izzo to come back. Welp, never mind! Might as well go to Cleveland!Powered by Sidelines
