The Tuesday Morning Purchase: January 22, 2008: Silence!!!

Yes, the rumor is true: this will be the very last Tuesday Morning Purchase column (Please…I can take the snickering, but the applause? That’s just rude!)

Ahem…

There are several boring reasons for this but they all boil down to one thing: I need more time. Over the past six months or so, some really great writing opportunities have come my way. On top of that, there are a bunch of future projects that need to go beyond the list scribbled on my desk blotter. This particular column took up a surprising amount of time on both Sunday and Monday evenings. That old “not enough hours in the day” thing was fast becoming a reality.

It had to go.

But that idea made me sad, as I do love finding new and interesting music and letting people know about it. That tradition will continue with the dynamic duo of Tom Johnson and yours truly putting in guest appearances in Glen Boyd’s weekly New CDs column.

We’re hoping that having all of the voices under one roof will make for a more focused new releases experience (Two possible exceptions: 1. Glen & Tom blathering on about the new Porcupine Tree release 2. Me & Glen prattling on like little schoolgirls in the event of a new Springsteen record).

So to the three or four kind folks who looked forward to this column each week: get a life! thank you very much. I didn’t mean to hurt your bank account so much, it just kinda worked out that way.

    You forgot the third exception:

3.) When you and Johnson get all aroused over something like the Nels Kline Singers.

(Seriously though, nice to have you guys on board).

Did someone say “Nels Cline Singers”???? Woohoo!!

(I thought I read something about this wonderful series being discontinued but I’m going to pretend I didn’t and have a great day today)

Glen’s right, Mark – you ARE the dean of BC music critics. Don’t you become too scarce around here, or I’m gonna come lookin’ for ya!

No one could hold a lit cigarette and half-full martini glass in the same hand as fluidly as Dino. He was The Man.
