Call me a perv (and you wouldn’t be the first), but there is something about beautiful young women yelling “unzip your pants and let me suck it” and “fuck me till the condom is gone” that gets me going. The Riff Randals are just such a group of young women, and now they have a record of their wanton ways on the new CD “Fun in the Sun”.
I went to see them perform at Old Ironsides for their CD release party, and wasn’t disappointed. The band had changed members and outfits since the last time I saw them live. They use to all look like average high school girls that were too young to be performing in a bar, and lead guitar was handled by Allison. On this night, they had a new guitarist named Kortnee, and there was a more punk edge to their look. Lory, the lead singer, had the punk style down. Of course, what would you expect from a band named after a character from “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School”.
Candy played bass and sang back-up. She shared her mic with Allison, who was invited on stage for a few songs. Heather, the drummer, asked the audience if they were getting a good view of her slit as her short skirt slid up her thighs. How often do you get that at a rock show? Thank god for girl drummers.
The girls describe their music as “porn punk”, and that sums it up pretty well. The songs are short, fast and loud. Like the jokes in an Austin Powers movie, if you don’t like one, there will be another along before you know it. Their rough, garage band sound fits in well with what is popular in music right now.
The CD was produced by Skid Jones, who was the driving force behind Magnolia Thunderfinger, until they broke up recently. Jones has produced a number of local bands’ recordings, and he manages to capture the Riff Randals live sound on this one. This isn’t an average chick record. You won’t confuse lead singer Lory with Avril Lavigne or Britney Spears.
So, if your taste runs to a more pop melodic sound, then you probably won’t get the Riff Randalls. If, on the other hand, you like your music and your women wild and loud, then check out this new CD. I’ve got the song “Role Play” available for download here.
