William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, is very ill. And quite old. And he is unlikely to remain on the Supreme Court for much longer.
Chief Justice Rehnquist’s leaving the USSC will give President Bush two crucial openings to fill: A new Supreme Court judge, and a new Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court.
I expect Clarence Thomas will be picked as the new Chief Justice of the USSC, throwing Leftists into a major hissy-fit. And I also expect Miguel Estrada will be Bush’s pick to replace Justice Rehnquist on the Court.
Not much of a change, really. One conservative judge for another. One conservative Chief Justice for another.
But the Left will go bonkers nonetheless.
