The (Blue) Beat of the Election

BlueBeat online radio has a timely, amusing and in some ways revealing program running right now. Users can tune in (after signing up and downloading their player) and choose from two themed playlists: artists favored by, and in favor of John Kerry, and the other with Bush favorites and supporters.

The president’s playlist leans to country and hard rock, featureing tracks from artists including Kid Rock, Clint Black, Jessica Simpson, Ramones, Alice Cooper, Brian McKnight, Britney Spears, Everly Brothers, Sara Evans, Billy Dean, Charlie Daniels, Brooks and Dunn, Lyle Lovett, Destiny’s Child.

Senator Kerry’s list is all over the liberal place, including Bruce Springsteen, Bad Religion, REM, Ministry, CSNY, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Elvis Costello, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Dixie Chicks, Moby, Indigo Girls, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, John Fogerty.

Red, White and BlueBeat keeps track of listeners’ choices and tabulates them in real time. At this moment, The Bush/Cheney stream trails the Kerry/Edwards musical ticket 47 to 53%, but the lead has changed hands a number of times.

Of course the “vote” could also just be a mandate on musical taste.

And don’t forget John Kerry’s rockin’ past.
